| I am yesterday and today and tomorrow... The 1935 "She" is one of the greatest classic adventure films of all time, perfectly cast and perfectly played out in true thirties style. This version is NOT widescreen as stated in the listing (thank goodness, since the movie was not shot in widescreen) and the color, I think, cheapens the look (I'm sorry, Ray Harryhausen!) but the full black-and-white version is included on the disc, so all is well. It does not appear that any restoration was done to the film as the same flaws appear as on the earlier Kino release (even in the colorized version). For fans, the deleted scenes alone are worth the price of the disc, and they are a couple of truly awesome finds. Unfortunately, they're not restored to the movie, but included as extras. I don't know if they were ever part of the theatrical release. Anyway, it seems that this will be the best version that we'll get on dvd for the time being, and I can recommend the film wholeheartedly even if the quality of this dvd release isn't any improvement over previous versions. | SHE delivers SHE delivers! I had not heard of this title until recently and was excited to finally see it. I watched it in both the Black and White and color versions. They both were excellent and the colorization did not spoil the film. It was done by the people who did the original King Kong and parts of it looked similar, especially the lavish doors and big sets. The native people did a crazy dance that you can't even imagine. Seems native dances are par for these old movies. You can only lauph as you think of the actors having to do these scenes. The movie has action, violence romance and Ray Harryhausen special affects. No real monsters though. The ending is a bit strange but to tell you would be a spoiler! By chuck.levine (Roseville, MN, USA) |
| childhood memory I saw this movie in the 1940's when I was a small child. I really want to see it again as an adult. I spent most of the movie under the seat in the theater. For at least a year after, my parents could not even say the word "she" without me screaming. The woman was utterly terrifying for me. We went to the movie theater every week in those years but this is the one movie that scared me to death. By Pat (Milwaukee WI) This review is for a different format. |
