With album number two, Xandria suddenly became known in the Gothic and Metal scene, for with the title track and the video which went with it the band played themselves into the hearts of many new listeners. Recorded and mixed in the Belgian studio of producer Jos‚ Alvarez-Brill (Wolfsheim, among others), in the months of December 2003 to February 2004, an album with many facets came into existance: Together with the producer the band tried many new things like soundtrack-like, bombastic arrangements, modern guitar riffs and rhythmic samples. | | Doro Warrior Soul (Enhanced) CD (2006) (Import) England; Limited Edition; Digipak; Enhanced
Ravenheart CD music
$35.29 Limited Edition comes packaged in a Digi-book. The new Doro album Warrior Soul carries on the spirit of the old Warlock times and adapts in to the current times. Doro would not be Doro if she did not put all of her heart and energy into Warrior Soul. Once again she had to go a long way. It has leaded her from the already familiar Yellohouse Studio in Wupppertal (Germany), the Atom-H-Studios and the cooperation with Chris Lietz ...

$10.45 Based on the album title and the "hello, sailor!" album cover, Hydrogyn know exactly what their selling point is: hot'n'fancy (albeit slightly hoarse'n'scratchy) singer Julie Westlake. (One could also point out, somewhat bitchily, ...

| | Linda Tate We Belong Together CD (1996)
Ravenheart CD music
$12.95 Southport Records has often been great about turning the spotlight on talented Chicago jazz artists who were little known outside of their city. In 1996, one such artist was Linda Tate, an expressive and charming singer whose main influences include Sarah Vaughan and Dianne Reeves. Although Tate hasn't escaped the influence of R&B and pop, We Belong Together is a jazz CD first and foremost. This CD contains a few warhorses that have been recorded countless times (including "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To" and "I'm Beginning to See the Light"), but on the whole, Tate is insightful enough to make less obvious selections. ...

| | American Metal - The Steeler Anthology CD (2006)
Ravenheart CD music
$13.69 Steeler is best known as the band that brought Swedish guitar shredding sensation Yngwie Malmsteen to the U. S. of A., and to a lesser extent, as one of singer Ron Keel's first outfits. However, Malmsteen was only briefly a member of the group, while Keel was present from the beginning (1981) to the end (1984), as evidenced by selections on the 2006 compilation American Metal: The Steeler Anthology. The group only managed to issue a lone full-length studio effort during its brief tenure together, 1983's Steeler (which did feature Malmsteen), but Keel had a fair amount of demos and live tracks laying around, which comprise this 16-track compilation. Although by not including a single track from their aforementioned full-length, titling this an "anthology" is a bit misleading. The "Yngwie era" is represented by only four tracks, all of which are live recordings that are of bootleg quality. Still, Yngwie worshipers should get a kick out of hearing "Yngwie ...
| | Dawnwind Looking Back On The Future CD (2006)
Ravenheart music CDs
$14.09 Dawnwind's story couldn't be any more of an obscure cult one -- the folk-based duo, consisting of Jon Harflett and John Perkins, formed in 1967, recorded its one album over a weekend in 1975 when one was ragingly sick, and then was stuck with seeing the album get a miniscule run from which Harflett and Perkins got no money. But such are the ways of trends and rediscoveries that demand grew for a reissue in 2006, and Looking Back on the Future proves to be an engagingly moody release, its almost garish purple-tinged sleeve weirdly appropriate for the understated opulence of the music. While hardly an orchestral effort, Looking Back revels in a richness of sound and reference -- if not in the sense of such avant-garde performers as Bert Jansch, John Fahey, or Robbie Basho, then far more so than the dull but worthy efforts of so many sensitive souls of the '70s. Assisted ...
