Purchase Getting Over You CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Tangerine Dream Phaedra CD (1974)
Getting Over You album
$8.85 The title track is an almost spooky exercise in synth/sequencer tension and dynamics: while eerie atmospheres of Mellotron go head to head with spiraling Moogs, dense, humming sequencer webs percolate along the surface, motile and mobile. The album's closer, "Sequent C," leaves the listener breathless, as black electronic clouds form and dissipate and the surrounding space becomes corporeal sound. PHAEDRA remains one of the seminal recordings of the electronic movement, and stands up--even years later--as an original, stunning piece of music.
Widely considered one of Tangerine Dream's masterworks, fallout from the sonic phenomenon that is PHAEDRA can still be found lingering in the ambient movement of the early '90s and in much of contemporary electronica. The aural architecture that the band built from scratch remains unparalleled. Tangerine Dream was truly ahead of its time--the four epic-length tracks on PHAEDRA revealed a band that fully understood--and loved to manipulate--the complex array of knobs, dials, and switches that protruded from their synthesizer facades.
Tangerine Dream: Edgar Froese (guitar, organ, Mellotron, synthesizer, bass instrument); Peter Baumann (flute, electric piano, organ); Chris Franke (keyboards, Moog synthesizer).
| | Moby Wait For Me CD (2009)
Getting Over You CD music
$13.19 Following the decadent, club-style excursions of 2008's HOTEL, Moby returns for a more contemplative sound on the melancholic WAIT FOR ME. Working through deeply personal material and a more intimate, though at times cinematic, sound palette, the album ranks as among his best in over 10 years.
Moby's most unified and understated album, and all the better for it, WAIT FOR ME is a morose set of elegantly bleary material, quite a shift from the hedonistic club tracks of LAST NIGHT. Dominated by instrumentals, "Shot in the Back of the Head" is the most evocative of the bunch, seemingly pulled from an unreleased David Lynch film scored by the Afghan Whigs circa GENTLEMEN--a lament from a dustbowl, full of mournful slide guitar and dewy electric piano. Other than "Mistake"--a glum neo-post-punk rave-up that, despite its cathartic release, remains downcast--Moby leaves the vocals to a series of females (neighborhood chums, apparently) who each contribute to one song. The smoky 3-A.M. gospel whispers from throwback soul singer Leela James on "Walk with Me" steal the show.
Recording information: England; United States.
Personnel: Moby (vocals, various instruments); Starr Blackshere, Kelli Scarr, Hilary Gardner, Melody Zimmer, Amelia Brown, Leela James (vocals).
Audio Mixers: Andy Marcinkowski; Ken Thomas.

| | Cascada Everytime We Touch CD (2006)
Getting Over You songs
$15.65 Cascada's 2006 release EVERYTIME WE TOUCH delivers more of the artist's clubby electronic pop, which combines elements of disco, house, and straightforward commercial pop. The insistent, thumping tracks that back Cascada's sweet vocals wouldn't be out of place on the playlist of any mid-2000s DJ, but it's the blonde bombshell's hooky refrains that really make these tunes stick. This comes recommended to those who have enjoyed the recent work of Madonna and Cher.

| | Bill Withers Lean On Me CD (2002)
Getting Over You music CDs
$7.89 Lean on Me is a reissue of the 1999 budget-priced ten-song Bill Withers compilation Top Bill, containing most of Withers' biggest songs. The song list jumps from his early-'70s folk repertoire ("Lean on Me," "Ain't No Sunshine," "Another Day to Run") to his mid-'80s soul sound ("Don't Make Me Wait," "Watching You Watching Me"), with heavy synthesizer backings, etc. The difference isn't as jarring as one might expect, however -- Withers' voice was as good as ever on the later material, and he is in his element in both settings. What's more, his songwriting, if focused very differently, is still clever and results in some very lively and alluring compositions. The sound is excellent, utilizing the best mid-'90s remasterings. The Collectables Records reissue, part of the company's Priceless Collection series, adds brief biographical liner notes, but is otherwise identical to Top Bill; in fact, the title printed on the disc itself is Top Bill, not Lean on Me. ~ Bruce Eder & William Ruhlmann

| | Phil Doleman Rock & Roll Casualty CD (2006)
Getting Over You CD music
$10.65 Phil is a solo singer/songwriter from Derbyshire, England. Not your typical shoegazing, acoustic guitar wielding bloke, his songs are quirky takes on real life, blown up out of all proportion - complete stories built around the minutiae of every day that are anything but 'everyday'.He is inspired in equal parts by cult songwriters such as Richard Thomspon and Billy Bragg and punk icons like John Otway and Wreckless Eric, making his songs immediate yet memorable, raw yet polished. If you like your pop music to be out of the ordinary, if you like lyrics that mean something (even if it's something stupid), if you like songs that make you smile, if you like songs that get in, do the job and get out again with no messing around, then you'll like Phil.He has gigged around London and the Midlands as a headline act and as a support to established artists such as John Otway, Danbert Nobacon, Leon Rosselson and Ed Tudor-Pole amongst others. He has released several CDs, and in 2004 he had a number 2 hit single with the band 4-4-2, appearing on both CD:UK and Top of the Pops.Quotes"Phil has mastered the art of writing a glorious and memorable pop song"Rob Dix, Drowned in Sound"Strength and originality"Guitarist Magazine"Joe Jackson meets Richard Thompson"A J Charron, Guitarnoise.com"A mild-mannered cousin to understated poets of everyday Englishness like Squeeze, Billy Bragg, Victoria Wood and John Otway, he writes winsome, charming songs"Dann Chinn, Misfit City"The male Victoria Wood"BBC Radio Derby
| | Red Means Go Album 1 CD (2006)
Getting Over You music CDs
$10.25 Red Means Go was formed in Spring 2002 by four friends who found each other through their day job - as musicians for the Blue Man Group in Las Vegas, Nevada. The band draws its sound from a wide variety of influences, including 70's and 80's hard rock bands (Guns n Roses, Motley Crue, Van Halen, AC/DC and Aerosmith) and a plethora of pop artists (Weezer, Foo Fighters, the Police, Jellyfish, Cheap Trick and Queen). The end result has been described as "KiSS-influenced guitars with post-Beatles harmonies."Before even playing one gig, the lads in Red Means Go had recorded a full album worth of material, titled "Album 1." Released in September 2002, the this album featured 10 songs written by founding members Corky Gainsford and Michael Kelly (also known as MK), with each song-writer picking up vocal duties for their respective songs. "Album 1" contained two singles, "Do Re Fa So" and "Drowning," which both received airplay on KOMP 92.3's Homegrown Show and Xtreme 107.5's show It Hurts When I Pee. By the end of the year, Red Means Go was named one of the top acts in Las Vegas at the LV Mercury Music Showcase, and labeled a "Reason For Hope" for the Las Vegas music scene by the LV Review Journal. 2003 proved to be an interesting year for the band, as they recorded their second album, but also went on hiatus due to a national tour by the Blue Man Group that dragged Corky Gainsford away from Las Vegas for most of the year. Despite the adversity, Red Means Go was able to put together "Don't Tailgate," another full album of material that featured a heavier overall sound, but also showcased the band's growth and improvement in writing catchy melodies and lush harmonies. KOMP 92.3 has already put the single "Running With Scissors" into heavy rotation on Laurie Steele's Homegrown Show. Although the band is still on hiatus, all 4 members still work together at Blue Man Group in Las Vegas. Will a reunion show happen? Possibly. Wait and see, wait and see...

| | Jeni Saint Immortal CD (2007) (Import)
Getting Over You album
$9.15 Melodies that stick in your head in a good way… A voice that cuts through over a hip-hop beat… Songs that take you on a journey and crossover from the acoustic delicacy of ‘Falling’, alongside the 80s electro inspired ‘Make Believe’ and the dark string hooks of ‘Immortal’. In short with Jeni Saint you get style AND substance. With a classical training and a catalogue of popular inspiration (including Fiona Apple, Beck, Blondie, Nancy Sinatra, Human League) Jeni moved from her south coast hometown to London and hit the acoustic circuit. Gigging several times a week at the height of the acoustic movement in such venues as The Borderline and the 12-Bar Club. Whilst she initially accompanied herself on the keyboard, it wasn’t long before she realised she wanted to stand out from the crowd and swapped the keyboard for her cello. With this set up, she was one of the first artists to perform at the Lock Tavern’s acoustic night and was also the first acoustic artist to play at the Big Chill’s Enchanted Garden Festival. However, entrancing as this arrangement was, the sound still needed a boost so Jeni set about finding some collaborators. What followed was a period of experimentation and discovery. She played with folk trios, funk bands, chill out groups and even wove her electric-cello melodies into a rock- metal inspired scenario. Slightly deafened by this experience, she set up a home studio and began to program her own tracks. One thread remained the same throughout this time – the strength of her songs. The inspiration could spring from a small feeling or observation: ‘Maybe later, the feelings turn into thoughts I can translate with a note or two, a chord or three and hums and whispers later. Sometimes I write at the piano to figure out chords but the cello is great for riffs and patterns.’After all this exploration and having kicked the computer once too many times, she realised what was missing from the jigsaw puzzle – a legendary beatmeister…A few months later, some friends told her of a new studio set-up in West London so she marched up there, tunes in tow. There she found her musical other half in Full Phatt producer, Matt Ward. His re-mixing and production experience (Christina Milian, Outkast, Mutya, Fried) complimented Jeni's songwriting and classical training. It was from that moment that the album ‘Orchids’ was born. A mysterious flower that’s ready to blossom…‘This album gels like I always dreamed it would. Every element of everything I ever learned has somehow come together. The electro, the hip hop, the classical and the folk. I think I found my spark…’
