Journey: Steve Perry (vocals); Neal Schon (guitar); Gregg Rolie (keyboards); Ross Valory (bass); Steve Smith (drums). Recorded at various locations during Journey's 1980 "19-Infinity Tour." Journey (Rock): Gregg Rolie (vocals, keyboards); Steve Perry (vocals); Neal Schon (guitar, background vocals); Ross Valory (bass guitar, background vocals); Steve Smith (drums). After spending the better half of the '70s as an ersatz prog band given to Neal Schon's noodling, never-ending solos, low record sales, and muddling about on the marginal rock circuit, the members of Journey certainly welcomed the phenomenal chart success and arena tours that came their way in the late '70s. With Captured, a live double-disc from 1980, the newly crowned kings of AOR show off like a formerly fat girl at prom. "Separate Ways" and "Faithfully" were still a few years away, but the band had plenty of hits by this time and they blast through them all, including a blistering version of "Any Way You Want It." The band are in rare form and vocalist Steve Perry uses Captured as his coming out, while the thousands of diehards sweating in the blistering sun give the album an underlying hum of energy that tops even Perry's. ~ Steve Kurutz Released in early 1981, just before the band became power ballad kings, Journey's CAPTURED is a live double album/single CD. Although it would reach even greater heights of popularity starting with its next studio release, ESCAPE, Journey was already one of the top names in stateside rock. All of its hits and fan favorites up to this point are featured, notably "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'," "Wheel in the Sky," and "Any Way You Want It."
Captured Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) Outstanding! Classic Journey that really shows off the band's talents. A must for any Journey fan. Submitted by kip (Westminster, CO) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
When Journey was still a Hard Rock band... Ah yes the Steve Perry & Gregg Rolie years...they toured with all the major Hard Rock acts in the late seventies. This CD showcases those type of performances that Journey use to put on. The track "Dixie Highway" really shines on this CD along with "Line Of Fire", "Just The Same Way" and "Where Were You". Gregg Rolie & Neal Schon's intro to "Walks Like A Lady is very cool along with Ross Valory & Steve Smith's solo at the end of "LA DO DA" is excellent! I wish that Sony Records would release a DVD to this CD. Now that would be great to see! Submitted by David (Cerritos, California, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Journey at it's best! This was the greatest of Journey effort to date. It still had the great mix of Steve and Gregg on the vocals and the bass being pounded out by Ross and on the drums Steve Smith. And without question one of the great guitar players of all time, Mr. NEAL SCHON, making it all come together. This had it all. Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'! Wheel in the Sky, Do you Recall, Just the Same Way..and many more..the whole play list is great! If you are not a Journey fan this is the one to get to find great music and fall in love with one of America's greatest rock bands.
Enjoy,

Digitally remastered by Bob Ludwig and Brian Lee. The third and final album of what could be called Journey's cocoon phase (Escape would give birth to a fully formed butterfly and put the band through the stratosphere), 1980's Departure would also be the quintet's last with keyboardist/vocalist Gregg Rolie. Produced ...

Concrete Love, issued in 2002 for Vanguard, was a watermark for singer/songwriter Julia Fordham. Full of elegance and texture, the album paired her with producer Larry Klein. They had worked together once before on 1989's Porcelain. Concrete Love once more showcased the juxtaposition of Klein's graceful subtlety and Fordham's poignancy. The duo returns on That's Life, and it's a worthy successor to Concrete Love. Fordham's songs are always sharp and cutting in their honesty, but they are never sophomoric. Here, with collaborators including Billy Preston, ...
