Includes a bonus DVD with interviews, a live performance, tutorial and gallery.
On their 2006 self-titled album, Rodrigo y Gabriela offer up a fierce set of acoustic instrumentals that garnered the Mexican guitar duo international attention. Technically accomplished, playful, and emotive, these tracks work in the flamenco and folk vernaculars while reverberating with rock energy, as revealed on the fleet-fingered "Tamacun" and the highly percussive "Diablo Rojo." However, the real showstoppers on RODRIGO Y GABRIELA are the pair's excellent covers of Metallica's "Orion" and Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven," which both honor the hard-rock originals, and resonate with impressive added flourishes. Rodrigo Y Gabriela Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews One of my best CD ever I heard this at one of my friend's place and even played on a micro SONY system, it was interesting. It's one of my best CD's ever. The beat and joy in this music make me smile. Everytime I play it. This is a MUST have. Submitted by nick1974 (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Qc, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Stunning The technical ability of this duo is amazing. The dvd is more than a bonus - it is a part of the history of Rodrigo and Gabriela. Six stars. Submitted by mark_schultze (Rochester, MN, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.
Fascinating! I don't know if non-musicians will enjoy this as much as I do -- but I hope so. These are two amazingly talented and self-assured guitarists who just want to make music, and it shows. The bonus DVD that comes with the album is more than worth the CD's price, as it allows fans to watch Rodrigo and Gabriela play, demonstrate some of their techniques and tell their story. Regarding the techniques, the DVD is evidence of the fact that Gabriela is the more integral of the two to the Rodrigo Y Gabriela sound. While Rodrigo is a lightning-fast picker with a unique melodic approach, it's Gabriela's amazing rhythmic dexterity and groove that are the most technically astounding. The whole, of course, is amazing, aggressive and subtly beautiful all at once. Submitted by mdurrie (Calgary, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.
MUST HAVE Rodrigo and Gabriela are two gifted guitar players I have seen in sometime. This deserves to sell more copies than The Bible Amazing. I never thought this type of band could pull off covers like Orion (Metallica) & Stairway To Heaven (Led Zeppelin) - but they do it better than I could have imagined. If you like beautiful instrumental renditions of classics, then get this. This CD will suit anyone aged from 8 to 108. If you're older or younger than this, buy it anyway, you'll most likely love it too. Submitted by chrisbrown (Townsville, QLD, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 1 found this helpful.

Rodrigo Y Gabriela album
$7.09 The '60s Blues Revival begins here. Calling this album influential is an understatement akin to calling the Grand Canyon a rut; suffice to say that an entire generation of musicians (mostly young and white) heard this and had their lives changed forever. In fact, for at least a year after the album's release in 1965, it was impossible to walk down the hall of any college dorm in America without hearing one of the songs here echoing from somebody's room.
Heard today, the thing still packs a wallop. Butterfield's harmonica and vocals are utterly idiomatic, without a hint of minstrelsy. Michael Bloomfield's lead guitar is stinging and eloquent, and the rhythm section, on loan from Howling Wolf, swings like mad. The only fly ...
| | Quicksilver Messenger Service Happy Trails CD (1969)
Rodrigo Y Gabriela CD music
$8.85 If the quintessential San Francisco Sound is defined by lengthy improvised guitarwork and near-telepathic interplay, then HAPPY TRAILS crystallizes the genre on record. Extemporizing mightily two Bo Diddley songs ("Who Do You Love" and "Mona," the quartet introduces ...
| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Rodrigo Y Gabriela music CDs
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously close to a lounge version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," but this minor faux pas is redeemed by the Irish folk medley "Joy of Life/Trout in the Bath" which arguably features more full-on Irishness than the Dublin production of RIVERDANCE. There's also a lovely rendition of Neil Young's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" that's topped ...
| | Robert Plant Raising Sand CD (2007)
Rodrigo Y Gabriela songs
$13.65 Those who find the pairing of '70s rock god Robert Plant with contemporary bluegrass queen Alison Krauss unlikely have probably not been paying attention to Plant's latter-day work, which is full of intimate, acoustic-flavored balladry. While the organic-sounding, low-key Plant/Krauss collaboration, RAISING SAND, is a far cry from Led Zeppelin's stadium rock, it offers up some hauntingly moody textures that should appeal to "Battle of Evermore" admirers.
Consisting mostly of sagely chosen cover tunes, the album finds Plant and Krauss bringing ...

| | Rodrigo Y Gabriela 11:11 CDs (2009) Digipak
Rodrigo Y Gabriela CD music
$12.09 The very first moments of Rodrigo y Gabriela's sophomore effort, 11:11, hit the listener cold in the face, and not just because of the amazing guitar playing. Sure, it's there, but it's what anyone who heard the duo's astonishing debut would expect. No, it's the sound of the record: immediate, forceful, crystalline; ...

| | Tony MacAlpine Violent Machine CD (2002) (Import) Sweden
Rodrigo Y Gabriela songs
$18.55 By 1996, guitar solo-heavy instrumental albums were looked down upon by the majority of rock fans -- as many had moved on to focusing on artists who put the importance of songwriting over shredding. However, you have to give Tony MacAlpine credit -- he didn't stray too far from his prior musical path on his solo release that year, Violent Machine. Featuring plenty of MacAlpine's six-string heroics, Violent Machine easily could have been released in 1989, and probably would have done battle with Flying in a Blue Dream in Guitar World magazine's year-end poll -- as evidenced by such selections as the album-opening title track, plus "Shoe Shine Cyber Boy" and "Mr. Destructive." But unlike many of the other similarly styled guitarists that MacAlpine has been compared to over the years, he is also a highly skilled pianist, and listeners get a glimpse of this on "Chopin Etude #12 Opus 10." And there are also a few other non-metal detours along the way, including the jazzy melodicism of "Sophisticated Domination," as well as the almost new age-ish "Carolina Blue." With Violent Machine, MacAlpine proved once and for all that he was sticking to his stylistic guns. ~ Greg Prato
Released in 1997, Violent Machine is the 10th recording by virtuoso guitarist/keyboardist Tony MacAlpine. This record was a musical departure for MacAlpine, as he explored a different direction, incorporating more of a fusion jazz sound into his metal/neo-classical ...
| | Dengue Fever CD (2003)
Rodrigo Y Gabriela album
$11.59 Despite its rough edges, the debut album by Dengue Fever is an indicator of where pop music is headed, particularly in areas of multicultural urban sprawl. Though Cambodian émigré Chhom Nimol's sinuous vocals dominate each song, Zachary Holtzman (guitar, vocals) plays an equally essential role in defining the band's direction. Retro surf guitar, the throwback psychedelic tone of the Farfisa organ, rhythms on songs like "Pow Pow" that conjure visions of James Bond dancing the Swim in a Hong Kong nightclub, as well as the absence of any post-punk or disco residue, create a sense of time displacement; this music could just as easily have been heard decades ago, long before American demographics had absorbed Asian pop influences. As a result, Dengue Fever also projects a feeling of being heard in another place, through the Asian modalities of its singsong melodies, the reverb that drenches Nimol's tracks and, above all, the fact that every vocal part, including those of the American-bred musicians, is in Khymer. This album matters, though, because of its relevance to a growing audience in the U.S. At long last, years after America tossed the seeds of its pop culture out into the world, the results are blowing back, taking root, and raising fascinating possibilities for what's to come in this newer New World. ~ Robert L. Doerschuk
2003 debut on the Mimicry label is multicultural pop featuring the vocals of Cambodian emigre Chhom Nimol (all the vocals are sung in Khymer). | | Celia Cruz Havana Days CD (2004) (Import) United Kingdom
Rodrigo Y Gabriela CD music
$15.35 HAVANA DAYS is a 20-song remastering of the late great Cuban singer's work, including the favorite "Melao De Cana."
Celia Cruz needs no introduction to mambo or salsa fans, but the length of her career and the scattershot qualities of Latin compilations make it a good bet that few people have heard the bulk of her excellent early recordings. Recording with Cuba's most famous band, la Sonora Matancera, during the '40s and '50s, Cruz emerged as one of the fiercest ...
| | Hercules In The Alleyway CD (2004)
Rodrigo Y Gabriela music CDs
$13.05 On the 11-song In the Alleyway, Hercules continues March Records' rich tradition of releasing some of the sweetest pop this side of Willy Wonka. The bright sounds of Hercules are produced by the team of Ben Summer and Peter Baldwin. Culled from recordings on over 100 cassette tapes, the disc includes contributions from Gordon Zacharias of Fan Modine, J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr., and Chris Collingwood of Fountains of Wayne. These guest appearances might lead to certain assumptions, but the sound is all Hercules, which is much simpler and less muscular than their name would suggest. The collaboration of the American and British musicians began in Japan, but the sounds on In the Alleyway represent influences from around the globe. "Hurricane" is a standout, with Zacharias' lush vocals leading the way on top of Sumner and Baldwin's soft arrangements. "It's a Big World" is ironic, considering the brilliant smallness and simplicity of the album's overall sound. ...
