Planetes - Complete Collection DVD

 Visually compelling anime
If you can get past the unnatural yelling that some of the anime characters in this series resort to in speaking their dialogue, then you might enjoy the rest of the stories within this series. Visually, the environments and scenes are well designed. As a sci-fi fan I am often drawn to shows where the concept design of the environments are often the first thing that sparks my interest in a show. To be honest, what drew me to "Planetes" was a still from the series I saw on one of the DVD's in a local Barnes & Noble bookstore. As an artist, I am often looking for inspiration for design work in order to help me fine tune the designs in my own artwork. And that's what initially caught my eye about "Planetes". It's very common in many anime films for the characters to yell out their lines when simply raising their voice a decible would suffice. I don't know who started this trend, but I find it distracts more then it entertains. Nonetheless, I bought the "Planetes" series after all. If nothing else, I might enjoy the settings it presents.
