This imaginatively assembled collection of hip-hop features the Nashville rapper Count Bass-D's freestyle musings, spoken over a nicely trashy sounding backdrop of found samples, electronic doodles, and slow-as-molasses beats. D's hazy stream-of-consciousness raps and reminiscences meander in and out of thickly layered cuts like "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms," "The Slugger of Louisville," and the freewheeling "Internationally Known," until, with its interwoven music samples, the set sounds like a sound collage of the last three decades of R&B.CMJ (p.5) - "Old-school indie-vet Bass D is back with more boom-bap....The beats are serviceably bangin'..." | Act Your Waist Size Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) the definition of an ILL album is here...
It don't get any better than this folks.
Originality is high, and the variation of sound from track to track makes this release simply incredible. 'Act Your Waist Size' is creativeness at it's pinnacle. Cound Bass continues to be the best producer nobody has ever heard. What a shame. Submitted by Culture (Queens, NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
A sign from the West Coast!! There's somethin about Bass Ds' beats that makes me want to throw it on and listen when it begins to start snowin'.. I dont know if it's because he's from the east coast or if it's because he seems to release his tracks during the fall/winter seasons?.. One thing I know,is that his music makes me satisfied! No reason not to give this guy 5 stars... Submitted by Wamsoftware53 (Reno, NV) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Act Your Waist Size
$18.39 WHO'S MAKING LOVE... JOHNNIE TAYLOR is a budget-priced release by Stax artist Johnnie Taylor, including "Who's Making Love," "I'm Not The Same Person," and "Hold On This Time."
Former preacher Johnnie Taylor had already recorded a few songs on Sam Cooke's SAR label before he signed with Stax and released his first solo LP in 1966. Two years later the man called "the Philosopher of Soul" hit the top of the R&B charts with his breakthrough album, WHO'S MAKING LOVE. Produced by Al Jackson and Don Davis, WHO'S MAKING LOVE mixes elements of gospel-influenced blues and soul, while Johnnie's impassioned preacher-at-the-pulpit vocals tell tales of love and pain, romance gone wrong, suspicion, and jealousy. This inspired sophomore effort heralded the arrival of an exceptional solo singer and marked the beginning of a string of successes with Stax that would make Johnnie Taylor the label's all-time highest selling artist.
The song "Who's Making Love?" was among Johnnie Taylor's biggest chart hits, with Taylor's tough but impassioned vocal supported by a potently energetic performance by the usual Stax Records crew (including Steve Cropper, Donald "Duck" Dunn, and the Memphis Horns. But Who's Making Love, the album assembled to accompany the single, is for the most part dominated by more measured and blues-based material. ...

He soon quit all musical lessons and in 1990 discovered the pleasures of producing electronic music on his father’s Atari. His early experiments developped into a variation of what was then hardcore techno. Adding a Yamaha keyboard to his machinery and adapting the alter ego of T-Shit saw Yves taking a trip towards more pop-oriented sounds, while the Deaf Fretsaws, a collaboration with mate Marco Arni, concentrated on exploring experimental grounds. In 1994 Yves also appeared as a singer and songwriter in the odd pop group Heidi Jam, but the the quartet was dissolved after only one gig.Yves’ solo productions came to a halt in early 1997 when the line-up of Sacha Gebert, Martina Lenzin, and her brother Yves formed the new wave/industrial band Subyouth, with Yves using a Roland S-50 sampler and occasionally ...
