Chicagoan Charles Wilson keeps getting pegged as a blues singer, and while he does tackle the occasional straight blues piece, he is really a caught-out-of-time soul singer who sings more like Al Green than B.B. King. Unfortunately Wilson has also been saddled with middling material over the years, and he has yet to find that one song or groove that could define him and bring him some well-deserved public attention. This sampler drawn from his five albums for Ecko Records won't help much in that regard, either, since little here is particularly striking, although Wilson's singing is always impeccably fine. The powerful "Two Steps Behind" shows some of Wilson's potential, while "Over at Fannie Mae's" proves he can handle his own in a blues club, but even these cuts don't rise much above the ordinary as far as production goes. Someone needs to find this guy a batch of truly great songs and a good producer and then stand back and watch it happen. ~ Steve Leggett

Best Of Charles Wilson CD music
$14.89 Recorded between 1980 & 1990. Includes liner notes by Andy Aledort.
Epic's THE ESSENTIAL STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN AND DOUBLE TROUBLE gathers two discs' worth of the late blues guitarist's work, including many live performances and a few tracks with the Vaughan Brothers. The collection presents Vaughan's material in roughly chronological order, from the 1980 live recording "Shake for Me" to 1989's "Life by the Drop." It also touches on most of Vaughan's definitive songs and performances, including "Tightrope," "Wall of Denial," "Couldn't Stand the Weather," and "Cold Shot," and live versions of "The Sky Is Crying," "Superstition," and "Rude Mood/Hide Away." Though this album doesn't offer anything that hasn't already been released in some form or another, it does go into slightly more depth than several of the other ...
| | Leothus Lee Green Complete Recorded Works, Vol. 1 (1929-1930) CD (1994) Import
Best Of Charles Wilson music CDs
$13.25 Mississippi-born piano man Leothus Lee Green had a lot in common with his contemporary Little Brother Montgomery; he also taught young Roosevelt Sykes the rudiments of blues piano. In 1994, Document Records reissued all of Green's 44 known recordings in two volumes. The first half of Green's recorded legacy opens with six rare sides waxed in Richmond, IN on July 10, 1929; two of these involved vocalist F.T. Thomas and an unidentified alto saxophonist. "Pork Chop Stomp" and "Washboard Rub" are frantic ragtime barrelhouse novelties ...

Best Of Charles Wilson songs
$13.49 Incredibly weird title (many of the songs sport equally bizarre spellings), but a major step back in the right direction for the guitarist, whose dirty, distorted tone won't thrill the purists. ~ Bill Dahl
We invite you to hear Jimmy Dawkins belt through his unique style of Chicago Blues on this album, which stands up to, if not exceeds his previous works. Jimmy is known for his blistering ...
| | Marshall Tucker Band Carolina Dreams CD (1977) Bonus Track; Remastered
Best Of Charles Wilson album
$10.65 Carolina Dreams marks a retreat from the more pronounced country leanings of Long Hard Ride to the more successful country-tinged pop-rock of "Heard It In a Love Song" and "Fly Like an Eagle." They gathered more hits with this approach, and although the hits hold up well, the rest of the album doesn't live up to their quality. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Released in 1977, Carolina Dreams was a commercial breakthrough for the Marshall Tucker Band in large ...
