In 2004, the touring version of the legendary prog rock band Asia was down to a single original member. When the band's founding members decided to get back together and tour in 2005, it left the remaining musicians from the 2004 lineup without a gig. Not wanting to let the exceptional musical rapport they had developed go to waste, the trio invited Spock's Beard keyboardist Ryo Okumoto to join them and form GPS. The group's debut album is a surprisingly straight-ahead rock album that features plenty of long and inventive solos but little of the self-indulgent bombast that too often bogs down the typical prog project. Okumoto is particularly skilled at taking solos that create maximum musical interest with a minimum of musical fuss -- note, for example, his extended but fascinating solo on the album's title track -- but guitarist Guthrie Govan is also impressively tasteful in his alternation between delicate filigrees and chunky, heavyweight power chord machismo. Bassist and singer John Payne writes well, and the frank spirituality of his lyrics may come as a surprise to Asia fans, but his vocal style is often just a bit too overwrought; the clenched and gritty roar he deploys on almost every track fits well with some songs, less so with others. Recommended overall. ~ Rick Anderson Gp's Window To The Soul Songs | 1. | Window To The Soul |

| Window To The Soul Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews John Payne Rules!! Every song on Windows of the Soul is excellent. That is because of the great writing ability of John Payne. I believe Payne and Wetton were equal as front men of Asia. Payne has a chance to be just as successful with GPS if he churns out toons like what is on this cd. Good keyboards sound and the Guitars Rule. Can't wait for their next cd.

Fresh Melodic prog rock Geoff Downes leaves Asia in the middle of the production for the new album, he goes away with the name. Guthrie Govan, John Payne and Jay Schellen recruit Spock's Beard keyboard player extraordinaire Ryo Okumoto and rename the band GPS. However, the band sound like a fresh band with so much to say. The songwriting is based almost exclusively on the guitars rather than on the keyboards. The album could be described as a melodic rock album with an edge and a very strong progressive rock element.
A VERY enjoyable album, and a very fresh start for a great band.
Take a listen!!

More vital than Asia! I was initially disappointed when I heard of Geoff Downe's decision to jump on the nostalgia/reunion trail with the original Asia. I thought it was a mistake because "Silent Nation" was the best Asia cd since the debut in 1982. Upon hearing GPS, I am glad Geoff left John, Guthrie, and Jay to their own devices... they have created a melodic prog masterpiece that is superior to the original Asia. I look forward to great things in the future from GPS. For more of Guthrie Govan please check out his killer debut "Erotic Cakes." Submitted by Neil (Greenwood, SC, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Very Good debut album Being a fan of Both Wetton and Payne era's of Asia I am pleased that the origanal Asia has now got back together. This has given John Payne the opportunity to show us just what he is made of. I for one am not disapointed as this album is well produced with good songs and arrangements. He has allowed the other members to bring there talents to the fore with some great solo interludes in the songs.Keep up the good work and i look forward to the next album with gret anticipation. Window To The Soul music CDs
$6.69 As WTO has proven, the revolution will indeed be televised, and judging by Underground Network, Anti-Flag's anthemic songs will be wafting across the frontlines. From their earliest days, the group have worn their politics proudly on their sleeve, a shared belief which has seen them through lineup changes and expansion from trio to a quartet. Some things have changed over time, however, both sonically and lyrically. After several label moves, Anti-Flag are now happily denizened at Fat Wreck Chords, a melodic punk home far removed from their early purer hardcore sound. The sea change in style was evident on A New Kind of Army, and now crests in an ocean of powerful pop-punk melodies, which bind them firmly to the Southern Californian sounds of their labelmates. That said, Underground Network contains more than enough pugilistic hardcore to keep their old fans loyal, as well as enough echoes of punk's past to capture old-school geezers' hearts. It's this solidifying meld of styles past and present into a unique sound of their own that is making Anti-Flag such a force to be reckoned with in the punk scene. Lyrically, the group are maturing by leaps as well, as they turn anger to action. It's a multi-pronged attack that combines giving voice to society's ignored and oppressed, ...
