Death metal with some melody? Can it be? As evidenced by Amon Amarth's 2006 release, With Odin on Our Side, this dream seems to be a reality early on. On the album opening "Valhall Awaits Me," singer Johan Hegg's vocal lines aren't merely growled syllables. But don't be worried, longtime Amarth fans, it's not like the Swedish outfit has enlisted the help of Burt Bacharach to soften things up, as Hegg's vocals do resort back to the expected death metal growl soon enough, especially on such tracks as "Under the Northern Star." Yet all the while, Hegg manages to hold his own against the riffs and sometimes-Iron Maiden-esque guitar harmonies supplied by Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg. The aforementioned guitar duo also shows they have a talent for penning industrial strength riffs as well, evidenced by such tracks as "Hermods Ride to Hell" and "Runes to My Memory." Nothing remarkably new here, but for admirers of death metal with some added muscle, With Odin on Our Side shows that Amon Amarth continue to be champions of the worldwide death metal tournament. ~ Greg PratoAlternative Press (p.136) - "Their clarion dual-guitar tones give the group an atmospheric appeal that transcends the die-hard horned-helmet set."

Amon Amarth is on of the most underated bands in the Metal Music Industry today!!! Every CD they release seems to be nothing short of GOLD!!! This new release has definitly shown that, once again, Amon Amarth has "Rasied the bar" with amazing diversity and exteme musicianship(Not to mention that this CD continues to put them at the top of the heep in the world of the true "origin" of Metal Music!!!) This is definity the #1 release for 2006 and also leave a Historical Land-Mark in music, period!!!

There is no doubt in my mind that this is Amon Amarth's best release yet. Every single song is equal with greatness. There is not a few songs that dominate the whole album. This cd has really gotten me into death metal. All of the instruments really come together in this album. The guitars provide heavy, electrifying, catchy riffs and intros. The bass guitar in this cd is awesome and definitely adds a lot to the album. My favorite song on the album is "Cry of the Blackbirds" and I listen to it every morning on the way to school. Some other tracks to put some metal in your life are "Valhall Awaits Me", "Runes to My Memory", "Asarot", "With Oden on Our Side" and pretty much every other song on the cd. Buy the cd and it will probably be the best decision of your life.

Commemorating its 10th anniversary in release, Metal Blade Records offers a special two-disc edition of Amon Amarth's debut album, 1998's ONCE SENT FROM THE GOLDEN HALL, one of the crowning achievements in brutal Viking metal. Extraordinarily melodic, with an ample supply of infectious riffs, the band quickly became renowned in the metal community. The album also received notoriety for being engineered by Hypocrisy front man Peter Tägtgren, and the band's drummer at the time was Martin Lopez (Opeth). This special edition contains new artwork and the previously unreleased track "Siegreicher Marsch," a German-language version of the song "Victory March." Also included is a bonus disc featuring a live recording from 2008 of the album in its entirety.
