It seems odd that Bette Midler didn't release her first Christmas album until 2006, but COOL YULE proves worth the wait. A solid collection of seasonal favorites, the album features Midler in typically excellent voice backed with a kicky jazz combo and orchestra. Along with the usual standards, Midler dips into more personal waters, recalling her own Hawaiian childhood with the traditional island tune "Mele Kalikimaka" and performing a tongue-in-cheek rewrite of her previous hit "From A Distance." A duet with Johnny Mathis on a medley of Yuletide favorites is equally endearing.
Personnel: Bette Midler (vocals); Deantoni Parks (acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Doug Livingston (steel guitar); Randy Waldman (keyboards); Dave Carpenter (upright bass); Vinnie Colaiuta (drums); Bashiri Johnson (percussion); Fonzi Thornton (background vocals).

A BETTE Christmas... Incredible The DIVINE MISS M has done it yet again. This album blends the best of the classic, new and creative expression for the season into a glorious production that shouldnt be missed. Cool Yule is a fun romp and What Are You Doing New Years Eve? throws in a dash on wimsy and romanticism. I have a couple christmas albums but Bette addition is by far my all time favorite. Always Divine Miss M! The diva herself the DIVINE MISS M..is back just in time for the holidays with a great new album of classic & sasy Holiday songs.
Bette does the rarely heard Judy Garland track from "In The Good Ole Summertime"..MERRY CHRISTMAS..a great song hardly ever heard or recorded, but Bette brings it back once again with her velvet vocals..
Other standout songs include " I've got my love to keep me warm" , the duet medley with the great Johnny Mathis and a fun upbeat track.. "Mele Kalikimaka "
Not to forget Bette's great renditions of classics like "White Christmas, and her warm version of "Have Yourself A Merry.."
This is Bette sounding superb , and adding a much needed Sparkle to the upcomming Holiday Season..Buy This CD!

Cool Yule album
$18.05 Growing up among Afro-Americans in Berkeley, CA, Greek-American Johnny Otis (born John Veliotes) always identified strongly with people of color. Before he had attained the age of 20 he was gigging with black jazz bands throughout the Southwest, and eventually organized an ensemble deliberately patterned after Count Basie's orchestra. This highly charged album of historical musical artifacts documents the very beginning of Johnny Otis' recording career. With one apparently unobtainable exception, the Classics Blues & Rhythm Series has assembled all of Otis' Excelsior recordings, made in Los Angeles between 1945 and 1947. This provides background and context for his ...

$24.59 This release contains 12 tracks including "Paranoid Opioid," "Rise River Rise," and "World On Fire."
Fans who may have found 2004's AMERICA'S VOLUME DEALER a bit sterile will find IN THE ARMS OF GOD to be murkier than a bayou full of alligators. Corrosion of Conformity produced an album charged with more anger and aggression than anything the North Carolina band had done in the last 15 years. While not a total return to their 1980s political hardcore days, here C.O.C. brings back everything but the breakneck tempos.
From the overture-like quality of "Stone Breaker" to the cataclysmic conclusion of the title track, IN THE ARMS OF GOD plays like a movie score. Songs ebb and flow, yet ...

| | Fast Computers Heart Geometry CD (2007)
Cool Yule album
$11.19 bio.The Fast Computers were born out of strife. Jennifer Fox assailed Peter Dean with mixed tapes of The Buzzcocks, ABBA, Serge Gainsbourg and Morrissey; Peter volleyed back with cds of Pulp, ELO, Spiritualized and a complete Queen anthology. After their incredulity with each other's musical taste subsided, a begrudging truce evolved into an ambitious plot to merge their disparate musical pedigrees into a sound with a life all its own under the moniker Fast Computers. While Peter was always the self-proclaimed mastermind of the Fast Computers universe, he had yet to convince the rest of the world of his singular greatness. One hundred songs later, however, Jennifer was a convert and soon strangers would join suit.Oregon's legendary mists soon brought to flower the Fast Computers final members, seasoned Portland synthesist and guitarist Brenna Sheridan and bassist Andrew Stern.
Now as evenly balanced as the quadratic equation, the Fast Computers set out on a massive 16-month recording project spanning half a dozen west coast studios and twice as many engineers. Mixed by Tony Lash (Elliot Smith, Stars of Track and Field, The Dandy Warhols) and mastered by Jeff Stuart Salzman (Death Cab for Cutie, Stephen Malkmus, Sleater-Kinney), Heart Geometry is the Fast Computer's first full-length recording.
reviews.“Electronic music with calculated beats, programmed sequences and digital production. The syncopated rhythms and interlocking melodies on Fast Computers' first album, Heart Geometry, fit tightly together as though perfectly measured. Song titles like "Math Predictions" and "Gravity/Love" further betray the band's interest in the mathematical. But the group also uses math to trace ...
