Those Sleepytime Gorilla Museum folks sure are a nutty bunch, as they've seemingly picked up exactly where the late, great Mr. Bungle left off -- making a career out of keeping listeners on their toes. And their pals in Stolen Babies are no different, as evidenced by their 2006 full-length debut, There Be Squabbles Ahead. Singer Dominique Lenore Persi has obviously studied her Mike Patton recordings, as her incredibly varied vocals run the gamut from metal to quirky. "Awful Fall" wouldn't sound out of place on an early Oingo Boingo release, while "Filistata" would be right at home on Mr. Bungle. And besides the fact that they share the same label (The End Records), there's another reason why Stolen Babies and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum may sound a bit reminiscent of each other -- three Gorillas drop by and lend a hand (Carla Kihlstedt, Michael Mellender, and Dan Rathbun) here. Nifty CD booklet illustrations are included courtesy of Crab Scrambly; they look like Tim Burton doodles. With the majority of rock music in the early 21st century becoming more and more mainstream, Stolen Babies provide a much needed antidote. ~ Greg Prato
Stolen Babies: Dominique Lenore Persi (vocals, accordion, glockenspiel, Jew's harp); Ben Rico (vocals, piano, organ, keyboards); Gil Sharone (vocals, drums, percussion); Rani Sharone (guitar, mandolin, sitar, toy piano, upright bass, bass guitar, percussion, programming).

| There Be A Squabbles Ahead Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) First Review? Damn! Honestly, I didn't know anything about this band until I read an article about them in Edge magazine. They looked interesting, so I checked them out. Now they are 1 of 4 bands with a female singer that I like. The others being Evanescence (rock with a dramatic feel), Flyleaf (hard-edge rock), and Nocturne (harder-edge rock). Stolen Babies has a different sound with a hectic style. Though some songs can be related to bands like Orgy (So Close), Marilyn Manson (Awful Fall), a little of Flyleaf (Mind Your Eyes) and Nocturne (Tall Tales). Some other songs feel original in a circus-kind-of-way. The 2nd half of Gathering Fingers" is like a heavy metal BeetleJuice Anthem. "Push Button" is smoothe, and the video, included with this CD, seems like a Tim Burton tribute. "Swint or Slude" is more like a Neo-Metal Italy song. Lifeless is relaxing, but the ending seems 40 seconds too damn long. I sat there with the same unsteadiness I had during the last half-hour of the 3rd Lord of the f*%#ing Rings. Yet my favorite 3 songs are "Tablescrap,""Spill," and "A Year of Judges." But the 2 songs I don't like are "Filistata" and "The Button has been Pushed". The latter not being so bad. I can listen to it and only flinch once. On a last note, my cousin criticized D.L. for using an accordion. But it sure kicks the s!$& out of John Davis' bagpipes. There Be A Squabbles Ahead CD music
$14.05 Kate Bush's welcome influence is apparent on the Portland, Oregon band Sophe Lux's second album, an arty blend of glam and prog rock with more than its fair share of catchy titles. Overseen by Wendy Haynes, sister of the filmmaker Todd Haynes, the sound is by turns glamorous, ethereal, mysterious, and playful, with songs like the opus "God Doesn't Take American Express," and the multi-part "Marie Antoinette Robot 2073," highlighting Haynes's imaginative, all-inclusive way with a lyric, as well as her band's supple, dynamic playing.
Sophe Lux is an imaginative and daring pop band ...

Establishing themselves not only as new artists but as new songwriters, the four singers in 112 introduce their self-titled debut with a number of ballads and slowed-down grooves that focus on love and life. The smooth sound of their music blends perfectly with their four-part harmonies. With the support of Bad Boy Entertainment founder and producer Sean "Puffy" Combs, and occasional appearances by labelmates Faith Evans and The Notorious B.I.G., 112's songs sound like easy pop hits. "Only You" and "Come See Me" are aimed at the club scene, while "Call My Name" and "Can I Touch You" work best at home with the lights dimmed.
With a big push from industry mogul Puff Daddy (who helped out with writing and producing the album, in addition to putting it out on his Bad Boy label), 112's debut became a romantic soul hit upon its release in 1996. ...
