(4 Customer Reviews)
Contains 7 previously unreleased tracks from the studio sessions for the unissued album AGAINST THE WALL recorded in January 1988 and a previously unreleased demo.
Domanico, Brian Garafalo (bass); Larrie London, John Robinson, Moyes Lucas, Jr., Craig Krampf (drums); Tony Brock (drum programming).
This 2006 collection presents many of the finest solo tunes by Journey's powerhouse vocalist, Steve Perry. In addition to drawing from his successful debut, STREET TALK (1983), which yielded the dramatic hit single "Oh Sherrie," and the largely overlooked FOR THE LOVE OF STRANGE MEDICINE ('94), the anthology features tracks that didn't make it onto any official Perry albums, including the smooth ballad "Against the Wall" and "Don't Fight It," his rocked-out '82 collaboration with Kenny Loggins.
Former Journey bandmate Jonathan Cain once observed that "God gave Steve a voice that rings like a bell," neatly encapsulating this AOR vet's lasting appeal. His arrival in Journey took the band from obscurity to superstardom, and their attempt to carry on with another singer in the wake of his departure inspires fond thoughts of the post-Jim Morrison Doors. A glance at the title makes it clear that Columbia's not shy about the marketing hook here. Hardcore Perry fans will jump at the chance to hear previously unavailable tracks like "Summer of Luv" and the demo of "If You Need Me, Call Me." Likewise, newbies will be drawn to the perfect pop of "Oh Sherrie" and "Foolish Heart." The connecting thread, Perry's almost unjustly soulful voice, is the distinctive, defining element in these smooth, radio-ready arrangements.
At the time that Columbia Records released Steve Perry's Greatest Hits + Five Unreleased, the former Journey lead singer had scored exactly one Top Ten hit as a solo artist ("Oh Sherrie") and placed four other songs in the Top 40, one of which ("Foolish Heart") reached the Top Ten of the adult contemporary charts. It was not the sort of record that would seem to justify the release of a 17-track hits collection. In addition to the hits, the set included assorted album tracks from Perry's two solo albums, Street Talk (1984) and For the Love of Strange Medicine (1994); a couple of songs from the Quest for Camelot soundtrack; four tracks recorded in 1988 for his intended second album, Against the Wall ("Unfortunately, it was never released," he noted tersely); and the 1977 demo recording that le

| | Mick Ralphs Take This CD (1984) (Import) United Kingdom
Greatest Hits songs
$22.35 All songs written by Mick Ralphs except "Hey Baby" (Chanel/Cobb).
Ex-Bad Company and Mott The Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs released this 20 track release in 1984.
This optimistically titled solo album found Bad Company's guitar ace treading a softer, less insistent path from his platinum day job (although the band's skin-basher, Simon Kirke, makes an appearance). However, the results failed to translate among diehards still pining for the "Can't Get Enough" era. Taking the hint, Ralphs joined his megastar neighbor David Gilmour for the latter guitarist's equally anemically received tour without the Pink Floyd banner. Even so, Ralphs' album deserved a better reception than it received, for this is the sound of someone enjoying himself, trends be damned. He convincingly dishes out low-key country ("Last Chance Saloon"), glistening pop ("All It Takes"), melodic ballads ("Another Lonely Day"), and the breezy title track's fleet-footed jazz fusion, which wouldn't be amiss on a Crusaders album. The ever-dutiful Ralphs does throw the faithful a crunchy bone or two on "When the Revolution Comes" and "Rock Fever," although they sound more reserved than his parent band's fare. Angel Air has included ten demos and rough mixes. While not essential listening, they do lend an appropriate "you are there" feel to the recording (and two solid unreleased tunes, "Rock N Roller" ...
