Twice Upon A Christmas video
$5.69 Country music legend Dolly Parton lends her sunny charm to the heartwarming made-for-TV film UNLIKELY ANGEL. When hard-living barroom singer Ruby Diamond (Parton) dies in a car accident and meets St. Peter (Roddy McDowall) at the gates of heaven, the angel informs her that she must to return to earth to perform a selfless deed in order to gain admittance. Disguising herself as a nanny, Ruby soon insinuates herself into the joyless family life of workaholic widower Ben Bartilson (Lance Kerwin) and his children Sarah (Allison Mack) and Matthew (Eli Marienthal)--hoping to both heal the grief-stricken family and earn her heavenly wings in time for Christmas. Punctuated by Dolly musical numbers, UNLIKELY ANGEL is a Capra-esque affirmation of the holidays, love, ...

Twice Upon A Christmas film
$8.49 Supermodel Kathy Ireland (ALIEN FROM L.A., NECESSARY ROUGHNESS) co-stars with newcomers John Dye and Mary Donnelly Haskell in the heartwarming, family-oriented fantasy drama ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS, originally produced for and aired on television during the holiday season of 2000. The picture finds Santa Claus growing jaded and disgusted with the selfishness of mankind. He is ready to give up on the world altogether and head off to a vacation in Hawaii, until his daughter, Kristin, convinces him to give humans one final opportunity to prove that they can be caring and selfless. She must, it seems, find a selfish, dysfunctional family and turn them around. Kristin selects the Morgans, a seriously troubled brood: the dad works nonstop and the children amuse themselves by playing outrageous pranks, such as smearing peanut butter ...

Twice Upon A Christmas review
$10.15 This release combines some of Steven Halpern's most relaxing pieces for keyboard, flute, and violin (taken from previous albums INNER PEACE, CRYSTAL SUITE, and CONNECTIONS, among others) with subliminal affirmations specifically for smokers. The affirmations are, for the most part, buried deep in the mix, emerging periodically as pleasant murmurs. Studies suggest that calming music like Halpern's can produce alpha brainwaves, ...

Twice Upon A Christmas DVD
$9.79 DOPAMINE takes as its theme the question of whether love is anything more than a surge of chemicals in the brain. A soul-searching artist and grade-school teacher named Sarah (Sabrina Lloyd) locks horns with a group of San Francisco software guys looking to use her classroom to test market Koy Koy, an interactive computer pet. She falls for Rand (John Livingston), the quiet one, but has sex with his more aggressive partner, Winston (Bruno Campos). Regardless of this, whenever Rand and Sarah are together, we see digital images representing the chemical surges of dopamine that are causing them to feel deep attraction. The trouble is, Rand's father (William Windom) has instilled in him a philosophy of life based purely on neuropharmacology--his own marriage to Rand's mother having gone sour due to mental illness--which makes it hard for Rand to get out of his overly analytical mindset and obsession with Koy Koy. With Sarah's help Rand begins to move beyond his fears, and to realize the inherent problems with his virtual pet program. The script by director Mark Decena and Timothy Breitbach was workshopped at Sundance, and the film benefits from the presence of Lloyd who lends haunting yet earthy appeal to the character of Sarah.
Dopamine looks at the complexities of pursuing love when contemporary ...

Twice Upon A Christmas video
$10.75 From Japanese cult director Shinya Tsukamoto (TETSUO: THE IRON MAN) comes A SNAKE OF JUNE (ROKUGATSU NO HEBI). Tsukamoto continues exploring the themes he set up in TETSUO and other works--extreme alienation from both self and other, the changing relationship between man and machine, and the body as the site where these problems are worked through; themes that have often brought comparison to David Cronenberg. A SNAKE OF JUNE concerns Rinko, a woman working as a telephone counselor, who begins to receive a series of disturbing envelopes from a blackmailer. The mystery man's purpose is simple, to force Rinko into acting out the fantasies she is unable to fulfill at home with her obsessive-compulsive husband. Tsukamoto's film is shot with a style as experimental and unusual as his narrative, and ...
