If Heart took more psychedelic drugs and wrote politically motivated lyrics, there's a good chance they would sound like Ringmaster. A strange blend of chugging riff-based metal, exploratory jam rock, and socially conscious lyrics, Ringmaster is a powerful force that offers an awkward mix of styles on their debut album. Singer/guitarist Gloria Guillo is the star here, dramatically wrapping her forceful wail around every syllable like the second coming of Debbie Harry. The music doesn't always fit her delivery, often meandering around a few generic riffs while she does her all to give it life. But one performer cannot save a misguided song, and several of the tracks here are guilty of rendering themselves stale. Still, a lot of credit should go to the group for having such an attitude in an era where politics and music tend to avoid one another. Bravely standing by their opinions and not offering up the same old "government sucks" tripe, the songs seem a little more important and inspiring when matched with such a bravado. The songwriting weaknesses are a major detriment, but In Camouflage shows a lot of promise and has its share of fiery moments to offset the awkward ones. ~ Bradley Torreano

Reviewers often compare Gloria vocally to a young Chrissy Hynde, Ann Wilson, Stevie Nicks, Grace Slick, Debbie Harry and politically to Patti Smith. Conceptually, Gloria believes in pushing rock to its highest standard of thought and entertainment and is known to dress and do on stage what ever it takes to get a song across to the audience the way it will be remembered.
