Her voice was a force of nature, and throughout the 1940s and '50s Sarah Vaughan was paired with every conceivable permutation of jazz combo. In 1962, the critical and popular success of the novel, bare-bones AFTER HOURS album (recorded with only a guitarist and bassist) inspired this similarly spare follow-up from the same year. Here, she teams with guitarist Barney Kessel and upright bassist Joe Comfort on 11 torchy standards that showcase her full-bodied sostenuto and her sophisticated approach to harmonics. "When Sunny Gets Blue," in particular, shimmers in this simple setting, and Kessel and Comfort provide tasteful support at every turn.

An enjoyable album from Sarah - not exactly as "Sassy" as one might expect from her; but a different approach. The back up accompaniment is a different approach and Barney Kessel is awesome as usual.

 Simply the best!
Although Sarah has recorded so many wonderful albums in her career, this one will be marked forever as the perfect example of singing artistry, among all the singers of the world, in any genre or time.
Here she shows with clearness when less is more. Accompanied with only guitar and bass, she finds the ideal mood to express the full colors of her talent. Spontaneous, effortless, smooth, creative, passionate, intimate, she sings at ease, as if she was at home, and gives to each song a definitive interpretation, the kind that will impregnate your soul and you will never forget or disgust, through your whole life.
