The Travellin' Companion GERMANY lifts the lid on the German roots music scene, from medieval music, via the scene's playful ways with pop song and chanson, from the continuing developments in traditional folk music to what's really happening in the realm of hip-hop. Then there is klezmer, waltz, polka and a taste of something unique an act that is nothing less than a preservation society for one of Germany's most defining instruments, the Bandonion. Each of this compilation's contributors share something in common: a sense of the unconventional and creative when putting their thumbprint on the German tradition, a delight in experimentation and an openness to other cultures. This is a multi-tiered gallery of roots music, the origins of which go deep into a multiplicity of traditional forms, grounded in the present, gazing out to the future. Travelling Companion Germany MP3 Album
$12.65 it's hard to say if the members of Bodisartha (pronounced âBO-dee-SAR-thaâ) even care about "being successful" in the music industry anymore. they just float from one thing to the next, occasionally pulling themselves together for long enough to throw everything into a car and play a show. practice? what's that? no need to kill the spontaneity of the moment by playing in hiding, save it for the stage.the joke's on them. it's true. in a fast food culture hole that suggests anyone can be a rock star and everyone is special, josh thomas and justin piatt have woken up, six years and two bands deep, into a world where you can no longer sell music. music is free now, haven't you heard?this is a little story about a few kids that didn't have anything to do:one day, josh, after bouncing around a few continents and a handful of states of the american variety, ended up in the lovely, oceanside property of springtown, missouri. there he met a young man from texas named piatt and within a few hours, josh was throwing up from over consumption. the meeting was a success.a band called grasscanon followed, with josh on bass (but writing a majority of the guitar parts) and piatt on drums. there were comparisons made to such bands as the deftones and radiohead, but i'm with you, i don't believe the hype.parties, broken things, arrests, and other fun stuff ensued. then, almost two years invested, as grasscanon was preparing to record its first full length album, the band fell apart on stage at the Burgundy Room in Springfield, Missouri. by the end of the evening, several guitars, a few glasses, and a band were irreparably broken.josh drove around the country for a few months attending hippie festivals and indian pow wows, piatt hung out in springtown doing whatever it is he does. so what's next? why not move to kansas city? okay, let's do it.josh holed up and wrote a bunch of new songs. piatt came up when he could. a friend, bret steil, was tricked into playing bass. recently, trevis hutchens, a good friend of piatt's from "back in the day", has taken over bass playing duties for the overworked and overly sexy bret steil. he'll be missed, but it was his choice.a year into its formal existence, ...
| | Omaha Indian Music-Contest Songs CD (2006)
Travelling Companion Germany music CDs
$11.35 There is a lot to learn from their art, poetry, music and dance. The telling of stories lies at the very heart of each of their art forms and is the essence of their culture. It is their way of preserving tribal culture - elders endlessly repeat stories in various forms in order to bulwark the Omaha Indian culture against the erosive and diluting effects of Time. American Indian music is richly diverse, and integral to Omaha Indian life. It is used for a vast range of purposes, but primarily to preserve and perpetuate their culture and give expression to their own, unique sense of identity. In the Omaha Indians Music series from A2ZCDS you will encounter the historic music recordings made during the Omaha harvest celebration powwow of 1983 and the Hethuâshka Society concert of 1985 - representative of the antique recordings made by Francis La Flesche, the son of an Omaha chief and the 19th century historian, Alice Fletcher. For the 1983 Omaha Indians powwow in Macy, Nebraska, a decision was made to focus solely on traditional Omaha music and to include only those songs that were sung by time-honored representatives of the Omaha drums - the Host Drum and the Tai Piah Singers. This was essential, it was found, so as to preserve the traditional sanctity of the event. The spirit of the occasion was not to be diluted with âsecularâ items and participants. Very few Omaha Indian events are complete without speeches, songs and dance, and this powwow was no different. Contest songs varied in tempo from the sedate to the fast-paced. As you experience the 18 contest songs included in this collection, you will encounter songs that accompanied: The Clown contests: These were apparently not meant in a serious vein, and had obviously been included for their entertainment value. The clownâs contest was to be judged by the audience. The Childrenâs contests: These focused mainly on costumes. The Menâs contests, in which traditional dancers imitated the motions of warriors tracking the enemy. The winners of these and other contests were awarded prizes towards the close of the ceremony.EDITORIAL REVIEW: Omaha Indian powwows place great importance on contest songs. ...
