Klagebilder opens with the instrumental title track, a surprising stylistic detour for this long-running German goth metal band; it's not even the usual pretty, proggy keyboard-based interlude one often finds on goth metal albums, but a slice of full-on downtempo electronica that wouldn't sound out of place on an Air or Stereolab album. Following that, things move into more traditional metal territory, but there's a distinctly pop-oriented cast to much of the album. "Kein Liebeslied," for example, features a catchy, harmony heavy chorus that recalls '80s pop-metal acts like Whitesnake or Skid Row, and "Kaltes Feuer" and "Hollenbrand" blend heavy guitar riffs with synthesizer pulses straight out of vintage New Order. Some subsets of the metal audience will no doubt be somewhat put off by this album, which is almost entirely lacking in the signifiers one expects of European metal these days -- the singer doesn't even sound much like the Cookie Monster -- but Klagebilder is an interesting updating of metal tropes from a couple of decades previous. ~ Stewart Mason Crematory Klagebilder Songs | 1. | Klagebilder |

Purchase Klagebilder CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Toby Keith American Ride CD (2009)
Klagebilder album
$11.99 With most contemporary country artists, you could guarantee that a song called "American Ride" would be a slice of jingoism, but Toby Keith isn't like most country singers. His "American Ride" casts a cynical eye at desperate housewives and wannabe pop stars, not celebrating down-home values but wondering where we're all headed on this American Ride at the end of the 2000s, a sentiment not all that far removed from some of Keith's previous social commentary, which makes it a mild surprise that it is the only song here that doesn't come from his own pen. As superb and striking as it is, it's not necessarily a good keystone for the rest of the record, which does have a few tougher numbers that pick up on the lean, mean vibe of 2008's THAT DON'T MAKE ME A BAD GUY -- "Every Dog Has Its Day," the sly "If I Had One," and the heavy blues stomp ...

| | Trouble Skull CD (1985) Bonus DVD
Klagebilder songs
$12.19 Having set back the cause of heavy metal a good 15 years (in the best possible sense) with their fine debut, Psalm 9, one would have expected to witness some kind of evolution or growth from retro-metalheads Trouble, on their ensuing releases. But thankfully for the cause of doom, 1985's The Skull confounded any such expectations and progressed not a single iota beyond its predecessor's imposing, Sabbath-inspired power chords, gritty, analog authenticity, and, unique to Trouble's template, pro-religion lyrical themes. Unfortunately, its songs weren't quite up to the same standards from start to finish, and after a semi-decent start via the lumbering majesty of "Pray for the Dead," The Skull reached something of a premature climax with the surprisingly energetic "Fear No Evil," containing an awesome array of start-stop riffs, stellar soloing, positive messages, and a memorable chorus that made it one of the band's most accomplished compositions to date. Next offering, "The Wish," was Trouble's first (and last) attempt at epic songwriting, taking a severe stylistic detour toward medieval acoustic guitars, backed with string orchestrations, and followed by extended doomy chords. But its eleven-plus minutes ultimately ...
| | Kurt Reifler CD (2007)
Klagebilder album
$11.49 I'm Kurt Reifler, and I was homeless for a year, until just recently moving to Louisville, KY. Being homeless wasn't so bad really. I mean, it was by choice at least. I have been on my "48 in 08" tour, which has been amazing, and amazingly exhausting. During the tour, I have played a show in every continental state, before landing in Louisville, Kentucky. In the process, I have been blessed to have been played on XM radio lately, and a bunch of college stations too. In the last year I have also been receiving some flattering reviews from All Music, Time Out, Flavorpill, etc. BILLBOARD even described my album as a "promising debut." Snazzy. I am grateful for my accolades, but nowhere near as grateful as I am to my friends and fans that have been supporting me, coming to shows, buying albums, putting me up, and giving me fruit as I walk out the door the next morning, for the next state.I was always of the philosophy that musicians/artists should be somewhat untouchable. Meaning - I didn't like the idea of "blogging" and putting up stupid youtube videos. I felt like in some way it cheapened the art, and gave people more information than they needed. I felt like it allowed them to base their decision about the music on other factors than...well, the music. What I have realized though, after playing every goddamn state (minus Alaska and Hawaii), is that I AM the music I'm playing. And, giving people more information about me is just giving them more music, in a sense. I am aware this may sound like a load of shit, and don't get me wrong, it is. But, someone's personality and essence is definitely what their art is made of. So, why not give the source as well as the result? So, I will now be taking a different approach to the way I promote my music, and myself in general. This ...
