(1 Customer Review)
On their seventh album, Lonestar continue to ply their trade: mainstream contemporary country in the Nashville traditionalist style of Alan Jackson or Alabama. As always, the quartet's music is rooted in country from the pre-Garth Brooks age, with few of the soft-rock influences endemic to early-21st century Nashville. Songs like the title track and the sweet-natured single "Nothing To Prove" recall the glory days of folks like Randy Travis, Clint Black, and George Strait. Elsewhere, the sly "Careful Where You Kiss Me" and the celebratory "Cowboy Girl" play up the band's image as the sensitive but frisky beefcake cowboys, while "Hey God" is another of the band's reoccurring statements of faith.

Mountains album
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds dangerously ...
| | Brad Paisley Time Well Wasted CD (2005)
Mountains CD music
$9.59 Brad Paisley's music is an interesting amalgam of country sub-genres, a paradigm all its own. He melds straightforward, pop-friendly New Country with clever, somewhat Lyle Lovett-like songwriting and the occasional flutter of Joe Maphis/Jimmy Bryant-style guitar virtuosity. Surprisingly or not, this country combo platter made Paisley a star, and TIME WELL WASTED continues in the aforementioned vein. While there are some fairly mainstream moments here that wouldn't ruffle the feathers of, say, the average Kenny Chesney fan, WASTED boasts plenty of smart, sassy tunes brimming with lyrical witticisms worthy of Tom T. Hall or Shel Silverstein. "Alcohol," for example, is a first-person narrative from the beverage's point of view, and in retrospect it's shocking that it took this long ...
| | Lonestar Coming Home CD (2005)
Mountains music CDs
$7.69 Although the members of Lonestar on the cover of COMING HOME look like average suburban jeans-and-t-shirt guys, the band's sound remains firmly rooted in country. Sure, the group does lean towards a pop/rock ...
| | Sugarland Enjoy The Ride CD (2006)
Mountains songs
$10.45 With the departure of founding member Kristen Hall, Sugarland slimmed down to a duo. Losing one-third of the formula that made their debut a country/pop crossover smash might seem a daunting proposition, but ENJOY THE RIDE finds remaining members Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush not only surviving but thriving. Nettles's brassy belting has more sass and sex appeal than ever, and the in-your-face attitude on many of the pair's songs is even more brash and boundary-pushing than the most full-throttle moments on 2004's TWICE THE SPEED OF LIFE. While the uptempo ...
| | Montgomery Gentry Some People Change CD (2006)
Mountains album
$9.55 With one foot in rowdy southern rock of the Lynyrd Skynyrd variety and one in contemporary Nashville country, the country-rock duo Montgomery Gentry have always had a wider commercial reach than other similar sounding acts. SOME PEOPLE CHANGE continues the band's string of fine, hard-rocking country albums, with the excellent title track (and first single) a clear career highlight. The sweet ballad "Clouds" shows an uncharacteristicly gentle side, while "If You Wanna Keep An Angel" is an instant honky tonk classic.

| | Sampson-Gamma Electric Company One Below Zero CD (2008)
Mountains CD music
$12.65 This is the first North American release from the North Texas based Sampson-Gamma Electric Company. Taking influences from the experimental side of the Punk/Alternative genre, combined with Electronica, NuJazz and Instrumental R&B overtones, one might think of this as a new age album upon first listen. However, it is certainly not its intent. The Sampson-Gamma Electric Company has crafted ...
