| | T A T U Best CD T A T U Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
The provocative Russian teen duo's 20 best tracks available for the first time on one CD! Includes 'All About Us', 'Not Gonna Get Us', 'Loves Me Not', 'Null And Void' plus other hits, album tracks, remixes and more. Universal. 2006.
Audio Mixer: Robert Orton. Audio Remixers: Dave Audé; Jatin Sharma. Unknown Contributor Roles: Dasha Mischenko; Andrey Artischev; Eugenia Voevodina; Boris Renski. After only two studio albums and a remix collection, T.A.T.U. issued this 2006 compilation, bringing its relationship with Interscope Records to a close. Although predictably padded with remixed tracks and alternate versions, THE BEST features the highlights from the supposedly sapphic Russian pop duo's initial outings, including the infectiously catchy "Not Gonna Get Us" and a slick cover of the Smiths' "How Soon Is Now?" making this the only disc the casual T.A.T.U. fan would ever need. Given that t.A.T.u. only had two albums to their name when The Best arrived in the fall of 2006, it might seem like it was a little early for a greatest-hits album -- which is both true and untrue. For most acts, such a quickly arriving hits compilation would be a little premature, but by 2006 the duo's lesbianism shtick was not only exposed as nothing more than a marketing gimmick, but they had also parted ways with their label, Interscope, which meant that their act was outdated and that they no longer had the support of a major label, so it was the perfect time to chronicle the half-decade where they were a Europop sensation. The Best does this exhaustively, offering up the hits -- "All the Things She Said," "Not Gonna Get Us," "How Soon Is Now," "Friend or Foe," "All About Us," plus the new single "Gomenasai" -- plus a bunch of remixes and some album tracks. Since a little t.A.T.u. can go a long way, it's best to get all the big hits in one place; the rest of the record might still be filler even on a hits disc, but at least it has all the big songs, which The Best certainly does, and that should satisfy any listener who considers the Russian duo a guilty pleasure. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

Best
$11.39 MEET FERN BATCHELORA heart of worship...A ministry of encouragement. As she puts it in one of her songs, Fern’s desire is “to magnify the name of Yeshua (Jesus) in all of the earth” through her music. Deeply worshipful, entertaining, thought-provoking, exuberantly joyful... these are some of the words used to describe the wide range of styles Fern employs to deliver her vital message: that Yeshua is Lord, and that He can change your life! Fern will make you laugh, she will make you think, and she will invite you to join her in heartfelt praise and worship. Born and raised Jewish, Fern received Yeshua (Jesus) as Lord and Savior at the age of 25. At that time in her life she was not particularly thrilled with being Jewish, so she was very happy to “assimilate” into the Christian world. She spent 15 years in a Spirit-filled Methodist church, getting rooted and grounded in the Word of God. But He had more for her! He used the Pastor, who had a wonderful heart for Israel and the Jewish people, to draw Fern into a place of being reconciled with, and able to embrace, her Jewishness. She and her husband, Brad, were later led to attend Beth Emanuel Messianic Synagogue ...

| | David Bowie Let's Dance CD (1983) Limited Edition; Mini LP Sleeve
Best
$16.39 Personnel: David Bowie (vocals); Stevie Ray Vaughan, Nile Rodgers (guitar); Robert Aaron, Stan Harrison (flute, tenor saxophone); Steve Elson (flute, baritone saxophone); Mac Gollehon (trumpet); Rob Sabino (keyboards); Carmine Rojas, Bernard Edwards (bass); Omar Hakim, Tony Thompson (drums); Sammy Figueroa (percussion); Frank Simms, George Simms, David Spinner (background vocals). Recorded at Mountain Studios, Switzerland. Personnel: Steve Elson (baritone); Nile Rodgers, Stevie Ray Vaughan (guitar); Robert Arron, Stan Harrison (flute); Mac Gollehon (trumpet); Robert Sabino (keyboards); Carmine Rojas (bass instrument); Omar Hakim, Tony Thompson (drums); Sammy Figueroa (percussion). After summing up his maverick tendencies on Scary Monsters, David Bowie aimed for the mainstream with Let's Dance. Hiring Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers as a co-producer, Bowie created a stylish, synthesized post-disco dance music that was equally informed by classic soul and the emerging new romantic subgenre of new wave, which was ironically heavily inspired by Bowie himself. Let's Dance comes tearing out of the date, propulsed by the skittering "Modern Love," the seductively menacing "China Girl," and the brittle funk of the title track. All three songs became international hits, and for good reason -- they're catchy, accessible pop songs that have just enough of an alien edge to make them distinctive. However, that careful balance is quickly thrown off by a succession of pleasant but unremarkable plastic soul workouts. "Cat People" and a cover of Metro's "Criminal World" are relatively ...
