| | Kelis Was Here CD Kelis Discography of CDs
International edition of this 2006 release features two bonus tracks: 'Like You' and 'Fuck Them Bitches'. Kelis Was Here is the sexy, smooth follow up to the multi-platinum Tasty album. The album's first single, 'Bossy' (featuring Too Short) is full of the foxy, hip-hop groove bound to make any man break it down for his woman. But there's more where that came from including 'What's That Right There', 'Trilogy', 'Flash Back' and 'Protect My Heart'. Features musical and/or production assistance from The Black Eyed Peas' Will.I.Am, Raphael Saadiq, Kasz Money, Scott Storch, Shondrae, Max Martin and others, EMI.
On the basis of her association with production superstars the Neptunes and her 2003 smash single "Milkshake," Kelis became one of contemporary R&B's hotter commodities, so the artist's third album, 2006's KELIS WAS HERE, was met with great anticipation. Fans certainly weren't left wanting for length or variety: there are 17 tracks (plus a Neptunes-produced bonus track) and a host of producers (including Scott Storch, Will.i.am, and Raphael Saadiq) lending their craft.
Kelis's distinctively sassy singing is the glue that holds it all together. The album's lead-off single, "Bossy," featuring veteran rapper Too $hort, provides plenty of chant-along, head-bouncing groove, as does "What's That Right There," which employs a classic P-funk sample. "Trilogy" shows off Kelis's skill with ballads, which is sadly underrepresented on KELIS WAS HERE, one of the album's few drawbacks. Nonetheless, the album holds up, delivering a potent dose of attitude-heavy, hip-hop-flavored, female-fronted urban soul and funk.
Spin (p.106) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[H]er most streamlined effort yet....[With] sleek slow jams..." Entertainment Weekly (p.85) - "On the will.i.am-produced 'Till The Wheels Fall Off,' a slinky homage to early-'70s funk, Kelis sounds huskily terrific..." -- Grade: B Q (p.143) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Kelis is blessed with a unique voice.....KELIS WAS HERE is chock-full of surreal soul diamonds." Mojo (Publisher) (p.101) - 3 stars out of -- "There's plenty of quality material here, such as the vulnerable 'Appreciate Me', the cute 'Bossy' and unrepentant 'I'm A Handful'..." Kelis Was Here album
$15.65 By the time Cassie's first album was released in August 2006, her first single had been on the Billboard pop chart for nearly four months and reached nine million plays through her MySpace page. The page, set up in late 2005, was part of a strategy that sparked a lot of chatter and eventually landed the model-turned-vocalist on Diddy's Bad Boy label. With plenty of anticipation already in place, Diddy stepped aside, and allowed his new signing -- along with her musical partner, Ryan Leslie, a studio do-it-all with credits on songs by Britney Spears and Donell Jones -- to run her course. "Me&U," the decidedly unwholesome track that excited so many MySpace users, became one of the spring/summer hits of 2006, following the likes of Ciara's "Goodies" and Teairra Marí's "Make Her Feel Good" as a sexy, assertive single with an intricate and space-filled arrangement that doesn't batter the ears into submission. The looming synthesizer patterns, along with Cassie's upfront vocal, combine with an ice-cream-truck melody to give it a slightly twisted and threatening edge contained by none of its like-sounding predecessors. The second single, the snapping and swirling ...

Kelis Was Here CD music
$25.25 The finest example of perfect disco pop, and a record that should be prescribed to musical snobs and manic depressives. The album is a true ambassador of what pop music can be. Jackson whoops and dances through a suite of unforgettable melodies that should be danced to with a smile on your face. Each track offers at least one musical hook, whether it is the beauty of 'Human Nature' (who can resist the 'dada dada da da da') or the 'whoo whoo' of 'Billie Jean'. It's all too good.
The 25th Anniversary Edition of Thriller DVD/CD set celebrates this ground-breaking album with 8 bonus tracks, 5 of which are previously unreleased. The new tracks include exclusive remixes from Kanye West, Akon, and will.i.am along with a previously unreleased track from the Thriller sessions, newly mixed and mastered by Michael Jackson. The DVD includes new, upgraded editions of the 3 videos from the album as well as Michael performing on the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever 1983 TV special. The deluxe packaging ...

Kelis Was Here music CDs
$10.55 Long hailed as the savior of contemporary West Coast hip-hop, The Game throws an ironic curveball at these expectations with L.A.X. Despite the specific locale of the title, this is a record that actually feels geographically homeless. Production wise, the 19 tracks pull from cross-coastal influences, and guest MCs ...

Kelis Was Here songs
$13.55 David Ayer, who wrote TRAINING DAY, gives us another unflinching look at disillusionment and questionable decision-making within the ranks of the LAPD. Ayer's second directorial effort tells the story of burnt-out Tom Ludlow (Keanu Reeves), a functioning alcoholic and undisciplined detective with the Special Vice Unit. While so much of this characterization appears resonatingly familiar at first, we soon learn that the character here has been tweaked. While this loose cannon in no way does things by the book, he is also far from playing by his own rules. Ludlow is relied upon by the other detectives in the unit, and by their almost maniacally ambitious Captain Wander (Forest Whitaker), to go outside the law whenever needed. The infractions he is pressured to commit are quickly and uncomplainingly covered up by Captain Wander, while Ludlow and the rest of Special Vice receive accolades for their high clearance rate. Not until one of these cover-ups leads to the brutal murder of his ex-partner (Terry Crews) does Ludlow try to dispel the apathy (and the vodka fumes) clouding his purpose. This procedural melodrama is almost completely ...

| | Joseph Arthur Come To Where I'm From CD (2000)
Kelis Was Here music CDs
$11.69 With Come to Where I'm From, Joseph Arthur shows a willingness to ease up on the stifling angst that dominated his previous efforts. To be sure, the album still has more than its share of gut-wrenching misery -- there's no shortage of lines like "I feel like taking a razor blade and on my wrist write an invitation" -- but this time out, the anguish is balanced by healthy doses of self-awareness and a winking sense of humor. "Ashes Everywhere," a wistful guitar and harmonica breakup ballad, induces intentional chuckles with its meandering, dopey melody and lines like "I'm just trying to be all that I can be without destroying you or joining the army." In the ferocious and whimsical rap "Creation or a Stain" -- a strange sort of crossbreed of Beck, the Beastie Boys and OMC -- Arthur whines about "a guy in my head" and says, "I've come back from the dead so anything can happen/ I'm obsessed with tragic endings standing out like Eric Clapton." In addition to the somewhat lighter tone, Come to Where I'm From exhibits a more polished and accessible sound, without sacrificing the adventurous spirit that has been Arthur's greatest asset. Arthur undoubtedly ...
