| | Masada Quintet Stolas: Book Of Angels Volume 12 CD (2009)
Mood Kayo Best CD music
$12.99 STOLAS is the 12th volume in John Zorn's BOOK OF ANGELS series of compositions, and it's a welcome and compelling idea that he decided to re-form his stellar Masada quintet for the occasion. In addition to the rhythm section of Joey Baron and Greg Cohen, trumpeter Dave Douglas, and pianist Uri Caine, Zorn enlisted tenor sax giant Joe Lovano to replace him on all but one cut where he adds his alto, making the group a sextet. Here klezmer, Yiddish folk music, bossa nova, and other Latin jazz all come together in a seamless meld of tunes that accent the symmetry of ensemble play as much as they do an extremely advanced sense ...

| | Bob Marley Confrontation CD (1983) Bonus Track; Remastered
Mood Kayo Best CD music
$10.75 Additional personnel includes: Glen DaCosta (tenor saxophone); David Madden (trumpet); Nambo (trombone); Devon Evans (percussion).
Digitally remastered by Ted Jensen (2001, Sterling Sound, New York, New York)
An interesting collection of singles and posthumously archived material created in the same way as Hendrix's CRASH LANDING and The Beatles "Free as a Bird," (albeit with most of the original musicians), CONFRONTATION is more consistent than one would expect and includes at least one certified classic in "Buffalo Soldier." The record features some very tasty guitar, good vocal performances and the always rock-steady rhythm section of the Barrett brothers. While not absolutely essential, it should certainly be the next purchase for anyone who already owns all of the official Marley albums. While the disc is ...

| | Memphis Slim Grinder Man Blues CD (2004)
Mood Kayo Best album
$10.55 Yet another of the ubiquitous Memphis Slim compilations, Grinder Man Blues is different from most of Snapper Music's budget blues reissues in that it confines itself to a tiny space in its subject's career: his Bluebird sides from 1940-1941. The sound quality is good, which is no surprise, and the producers have mixed-and-matched the sides, so that slow, ...

Mood Kayo Best music CDs
$12.55 Arguably, remix albums are to urban contemporary, dance-pop, and electronica aficionados what albums of alternate takes are to jazz aficionados; they offer a combination of the familiar and the unfamiliar, and they tend to appeal to the really hardcore fans rather than those who have a more casual interest in an artist's work. If someone is genuinely excited about hearing three or four different takes of Charlie Parker performing "Donna Lee" in 1947, you know that person is a serious collector; similarly, no electronica fan who is willing to spend money on an album of remixes has the attitude that he/she can take the artist or leave the artist. So bearing all that in mind, it is clear what type of Karmacoda fan would be interested in the 71 minutes worth of remixes found on this CD: a truly die-hard Karmacoda fan. On Altered Evidence: Late Night Remixes, Karmacoda offer remixes of songs from their 2003 release Evidence -- and all of the remixes have a decidedly club-minded perspective. On Evidence, songs like "Whatwithall," "Where You Sleep," and "Reckless" have both club appeal and at-home appeal; they are songs that work well in a club setting but are equally effective if one prefers to sit down and listen to them at home. On Altered Evidence: Late Night Remixes, however, the tunes are remixed in ways that are specifically designed for the club experience -- and from a club standpoint, these remixes do the trick. Nonetheless, Altered Evidence: Late Night Remixes is not among Karmacoda's ...
