This eclectic set of jazz fusion from the keyboard player Scott Kinsey and his extensive list of sidemen conjures the late-1960s, early-'70s era of Miles Davis's extended jazz-rock-funk improvisations as well as elements of Weather Report. The cohesive interplay on cuts like the title track and "Big Rock" makes for a focused, unique-sounding effort that, while influenced by the aforementioned artists, has a distinctive, supple intelligence.
This the long-overdue solo debut from keyboard whiz Scott Kinsey who has been considered a secret weapon in jazz rock outfit Tribal Tech. He finally steps out as a leader this CD, rekindling relationships with a core group of L.A. colleagues, including T

Scott Kinsey Kinesthetics Songs Kinesthetics Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Check Into It This CD is excellent. If you appreciate fusion with a great pulse, and harmonics that are cerebral yet accessible, get a copy. The keyboard/synth sounds that Scott uses here are beautiful, and their convergence with the rest of the instruments is seemingly effortless.
Joe Zawinul may have passed away, but the inspiration of his talents is still alive in this music. And that is not to say the Scott Kinsey doesn't have his own voice - he most certainly does. Put him together with the rest of the excellent musicians and you have a 5 star album.

Great Weather Report tribute, but.... I think my headline says it all, but I'll say it again, just with more words: This is the best Weather Report tribute I've ever heard. But, I'm disappointed that Kinsey didn't venture further in the composition and synth patch departments. His playing is superb, as is that of every other player hired for this project but, like him, they all sound trapped in the WR web. Ultimately enjoyable, but I'd stick with his work in Tribal Tech. $14.05 The Hollywood movie star recorded this set in 1957 while filming a movie in Trinidad. It features 14 songs of rum-tinged, goofy fun with a Carribean feel. The album is noted for its use of banjo instead of guitar as a solo instrument, which foreshadowed the instrument's contemporary use in modern Bluegrass and Avant-Jazz recordings. The UK-issued CD also features two bonus rockabilly tracks he recorded for his 1958 movie "Thunder Road," including "The Ballad of Thunder Road," which was a minor Pop hit for the singing actor.
If there was ever a celebrity whose reputation as one of Hollywood's hippest cats was solid enough that they could risk ridicule by adopting a faux-Trinidadian accent for a novelty record, it was Robert Mitchum. The ...

| | Liz Durrett Outside Our Gates CD (2008)
Kinesthetics CD music
$11.05 There's an engaging modesty to Liz Durrett's voice, a breathy instrument which slips from note to note with an unaffected simplicity and casual litheness, that belies its surroundings on her third album, Outside Our Gates. Producer and arranger Eric Bachmann (whose work with Archers of Loaf won't prepare folks for this music) has fashioned a set of pocket-size tone poems around Durrett's melodies, complete with strings, horns, and melodic percussion, and sometimes they're as elegant as Durrett's tunes (such as the small string ensemble that lifts up "We Build Bridges" and the ghostly piano and electric guitars of "Lost Hiker") while other tracks ...
