Craig Padilla makes gorgeous electronic music that pairs dramatic sheets of monochromatic keyboards with gentle but momentum-creating percussion. Its lack of jarring dynamics makes it perfect for relaxation and meditation, but it is challenging enough to listen to in the foreground. For a time in the mid-'90s, Private Music was issuing Yanni samplers on a regular basis, prompting the casual fan to wonder if the love-him-or-hate-him new age phenomenon had ever indeed released a real studio album before. This collection is pretty much the definitive one with 15 tracks, including his most recognizable hits: the lush, percussive "Once Upon a Time," the sweeping, global-minded "Song for Antartica," the exotic, chant-enhanced "Aria," and the impossibly melodic "A Love for Life." Most of the tunes follow a similar pattern of pretty melody over just slightly bombastic electronic percussion and orchestra, but others, like "Reflections of Passion," have a softer classical mood focused more on the acoustic piano. "The End of August" from Live at the Acropolis adds to that flavor a beautiful violin line, to which Yanni's piano serves as a harmonic accompaniment. "Marching Season" from that same release displays an aggressive musicianship that Yanni's other material rarely approaches. ...

That time is now, and the concrete roses are CNS SYNDICATE; Nyquee Lowdown, Miscalaneous, Nite and Ras Emmanuel. These individuals know the meaning of hard work, determination, and beating the odds. Nyquee Lowdown, who received his name from hitting rock bottom then rising back up to escape street life and death on more than one occasion. Noticing when doing music he was not getting into trouble, Nyquee Lowdown decided to share his experiences of street life and wisdom, and the trials and tribulations one goes through when they chose the street life. Miscalaneous, who consists of Enonomous, the bookworm that everyone use to laugh at for being a nerd, has been producing, writing, and performing for over 18 years. Enonomous is described as the base of the group, the foundation. Then there is Etcetra, the connection between the top and the bottom. Etcetra has been producing, writing and spinning records for over 10 years. Then you have, Nite, known as the general, that leads her squad into battle. Nite has been rapping, writing and performing for 15 years, and was the MTV favorite and finalist in the MTV MC BATTLE. Enonomous, Lowdown, Etcetra, and Nite all grew up in the projects of East Orange, NJ, known as "Little City", forming CNS Syndicate in 2001 and have been rocking crowds ever since. Ras Emmanuel, the survivor of a Jamaica minus the palm trees, beautiful water, and tourist attractions. Growing up under the patrol of machine gun police, Emmanuel took to his music roots early sleeping around the studios in Jamaica doing promos for local djs to gain recognition.
