Piles of Bananarama compilations were released from the late '80s through the early 2000s, and they represent the group's past with varying degrees of success, but this disc is the first to concentrate solely on the 12" mixes. Some of the tracks are making their first appearance on CD, so it certainly has some level of appeal to collectors. The highlights include the "Extended Club Mix" of "Venus," the "Extended Mix" of "Really Saying Something," and the "Number One Mix" of "Trick of the Night." Make no mistake: this is no substitute for a proper best-of disc, such as 1988's The Greatest Hits Collection or 2002's The Very Best of Bananarama. ~ Andy Kellman

It's always a sign that a group is hot if they release a holiday album mere months after their debut. That's the case with *NSYNC. Their debut was released in America in late March, and in early December, Home for Christmas hit the shelves. Much of the album is devoted to newer material, with only a handful of songs qualifying as standards: "The Christmas Song," "The First Noel," and "O Holy Night." All of it is given the familiar *NSYNC sheen, alternating between slickly produced adult contemporary ballads and lite dance-pop. Fans of the group will certainly find it reasonably enjoyable, even though it makes it clear that the group simply can't rival such peers as the Spice Girls or the Backstreet Boys in terms of charisma. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

This is one of the most classic R&B Christmas albums ever recorded; the Temptations come steppin' in prime form. With a chiming introduction, "Give Love on Christmas Day" is an uplifting jingle showcasing Glenn Leonard's unwavering falsetto on lead. "Everything for Christmas" has mellifluous background vocals, with string and horn arrangements rounded out by Richard Street's indelible delivery. "The Christmas Song" and "Silent Night" are two incomparable selections featuring various members on lead, including Melvin Franklin's admirable bass exhibition. Dennis Edwards shines on the jubilant "This Christmas," which also features a spirited musical interlude. In minimal words, this collection of Christmas carols ranks among the best. ~ Craig Lytle

Bret Hunt & Antonio Chiappetta have done more than their 27years suggests. They have played in backing bands of Bardot to Mica Paris (guitar & drums respectively). Produced hits for Elektrik Force (Hy-pn-o-tize, Coolin' @ The Bar, Gonna Get You Back, Get 2Gether) & Platinum Groove Project (True Love 2001) and have remixed everyone from Disco Montego and Aneiki to Anuj and Akita. As part of the remix crew "Thruster" (with Michael Di Francesco aka Touch Sensitive, Moustache, Van She) not only did Bret & Antonio remix every release from Disco Montego but also played a large part in the commercial success of their album as well. With Antonio's uncanny ability to rap/sing and drum on time he started to gravitate towards a groove that became "Crazy Saturday". Bret liked what he was hearing at iSPY Studios in Alexandria and co-produced the first track. Thereafter, reaXion was born with 4 more tracks following including the amazingly popular and infectious "Falling For You" which is most people's pick off the boys' debut EP "What's It All About". These guys have certainly found their niche and what emanates is a reaXion on so many levels. What must be remembered is that most of every song from reaXion's forthcoming debut release is all written, performed & produced by the boys using mostly all analogue instrumentation. Guitar laden, vocal smeared, hook covered alternative pop at its finest.
