| | Billy Cobham Total Eclipse CD (1974)
Giant Box 2in1
$10.49 This is Billy Cobham's third solo recording under his own name and is a fine follow-up to Crosswinds. The mini-suite "Solarization" not only showcases the band's technical abilities, but also Cobham's strong compositional skills. It also features a schizophrenic piano solo ("Second Phase") from the underrated pianist Milcho Leviev, who sounds like a mutation of ...

| | Joe Zawinul Zawinul CD (1971)
Giant Box 2in1
$10.15 Conceptually, sonically, this is really the first Weather Report album in all but name, confirming that Joe Zawinul was the primary creative engine behind the group from the beginning. It is also the link between WR and Miles Davis' keyboard-laden experiments on In a Silent Way; indeed, the tune "In a Silent Way" is redone in the more complex form in which Zawinul envisioned it, and Miles even contributes a brief, generous tribute to Zawinul on the liner. Two keyboardists -- Zawinul and the formidable Herbie Hancock -- form the underpinning of this stately, probing album, garnishing their work with the galactic sound effects of the Echoplex and ...
| | Keith Jarrett My Foolish Heart CDs (2007)
Giant Box 2in1
$23.39 This release commemorates the 25th year of the jazz supergroup of pianist Keith Jarrett, bassist Gary Peacock, and drummer Jack DeJohnette, one of the longest-running small combos in jazz history. This threesome is sometimes known as "the standards trio," their specialty being classic songs that have become cornerstones of jazz and pre-rock pop ...
| | Holly Cole Temptation CD (Import) Import; Canada
Giant Box 2in1
$26.49 On her third American album, Holly Cole turned in a set of Tom Waits songs recorded with an augmented version of her trio; in addition to piano and bass, there are drums and guitar, as well as the occasional contribution from The Canadian Brass and harmonica player Howard Levy. The result puts a welcome twist on the songs, which include numbers from ...

| | Otep Sevas Tra CD (2002) Limited Edition; Digipak; Enhanced CD
Giant Box 2in1
$11.39 Otep instantly raises the bar on today's female-fronted metal band scene. Signed in the wake of some serious Ozzfest buzz (the band landed a coveted spot on the tour with no record deal), the California quartet makes acts such as Kittie or Snake River Conspiracy seem tame by comparison. The band's first full-length, SEVAS TRA packs a menacing groovecore punch.
Part poet and part Barbie-doll growler, enchanting vocalist Otep Shamaya could easily give Corey Taylor (Slipknot) or Phil Anselmo (Pantera) a run for their money. Shamaya's self-proclaimed poeticism clearly suggests that the scary-sounding band name is a simple anagram. Otep's music is at times, crushing, anthemic, and venemously vengeful. Think Slayer-meets-RATM for "T.R.I.C," one of many brutal tracks, expertly produced by metal veteran Terry Date. "Posession" and "Blood Pigs" capture Pantera-like intensity with mountainous grooves. Recurring lyrical ...
| | Ramones Too Tough To Die CD (1985) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Giant Box 2in1
$9.29 With TOO TOUGH the Ramones take on the '80s, and the '80s go down with a second round TKO. After a few fallow years and some substandard albums (by the band's standards anyway), they came rushing back into the ring with a fresh sense of purpose. The addition of new drummer Ritchie Ramone and the return of long-lost brother Tommy (who sat in as producer along with original engineer Ed Stasium) doubtlessly added some fuel to the fire, creating this punchy, revved-up, and highly worthy addition to the Ramones' catalogue.
TOO TOUGH finds the Ramones expanding their musical palette further than usual, adding crunchy metal riffs to the title song and "I'm Not Afraid of Life," while "Howling at the Moon (Sha-La-La)" adds new wave keyboards courtesy of the Eurythmics' Dave Stewart. The adventurous Dee Dee takes center stage for two hardcore songs, "Endless Vacation" and the manic "Wart Hog," giving Joey a brotherly run for his money. The best example of a Ramones formula song, "Durango 95," was destined to become the band's concert intro song. TOO TOUGH is proof positive that the words "punk" and "longevity" can go together in the same sentence.
Expanded & remastered reissue of 1984 album. With original drummer Tommy Erdelyi producing, the band revisits their punk roots. Features the original 13-track album plus the UK single, 'Street ...
