"This cat is telling a beautiful story! For a profound lesson on the subject of musical insights “Follow Your Bliss” is a must own disc!" -Brent-Anthony Johnson (For the full review,,,keep reading!) Exploding onto the scene with his jaw dropping Bass Improvisations, Jamal Hurse has been compared to sounding like “Jaco on Acid!” and is fast becoming known as a “musician’s musician” that EVERYONE can enjoy. Born with a profound hearing loss, Jamal is a Solo Instrumentalist, who has developed his own innovative style weaving multiple layers of melody and sounds at the same time, whatt you hear is how he played it! Insisting that the music be human, full of passion and emotion, Jamal at times has little regard to meter or tempo. It is truly a fantastic ride that he takes us on, riding the waves of sound that he produces through his Fretless 4-string Bass. There is no denying that this music comes from another realm, and that not everyone who hears it is prepared for its impact. Influenced by Artists such as Beethoven, Ornette Coleman, Jimi Hendrix, Charlie Parker, Mike Watt, Angelo Moore, Louis Armstrong, Al DiMeola, Ronnie Montrose, and Ignacy Jan Paderewski, combined with a traditional musical background, Jamal is meditative, melodious, and serene in one moment, then suddenly spins a full 180 into a sound that kicks you in the gut and leaves you scrambling to find your jaw somewhere in the rubble that was once your mind. Jamal, at 41, is now emerging from his self-induced sabbatical from the public with his totally unique and innovative style that has evoked strong emotions in many a listener. With a “no rules...just express yourself!” attitude towards just about everything in life, Jamal shares this love of life, passions, and his own artistic expression through his music, and has taken the role the of Fretless Electric Bass and turned it upside down. In Jamal's own words..."I don't play the role...I play the Instrument. Self-Expression is Pure Unfettered Freedom". ***For more information on Jamal Hurse, please visit www.JamalBass.net__ REVIEWS__Jamal Hurse – Follow Your BlissBy Brent-Anthony Johnson“Kinetic solo bass”…? Definitely from “somewhere else” bass! Now that we understand no music can be described verbally… Jamal’s music feels like “Brand X meets Heavy Metal meets Omar Faruk Tekbilek”. This is improvisational music on the edge, to be certain – but without the constant missing of other instrumentation! The implied percussion and vocalization are very present in each of the disc’s 8 solo pieces. Lovers of Percy Jones, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, and/or the earlier works of Dann Glenn will really dig Jamal’s approach to the electric bass guitar – as well as his singular journey to a musical world shown to far too few.Jamal Hurse was born in 1965 with bilateral congenital hearing loss, which caused him to hear casual conversation and intermittent sounds as rhythmic cadences. His 41 years on planet earth has forged his art – resulting in one of the purest and utterly heartfelt expressions I’ve ever heard! Imagine a conversation with a dearest loved one… across a thousand mile chasm. Or, imagine a rain dance… in deep space. The tune “Deceptive River” is my personal favorite! Jamal’s sound is at once most engaging, while at the same time it is one of the loneliest sounds on earth! This cat is telling a beautiful story! For a profound lesson on the subject of musical insights “Follow Your Bliss” is a must own disc! Follow Your Bliss music CDs
$13.15 This CD shows Rens Newland once again as a player (not special as a producer, arranger orchestrator or concept-maker):Guitaristic compositions, played "live" in studio with his "guitelectrio", bedded in very interesting lots of percussion. He presents a taste of his lifevision in spoken lyrics integrated into the music, spoken by the great coming-up rocksinger Lionel Lodge from Canada. We encounter wellknown names out of the Newland-Jive Music-Family: Fine work of Willi Langer, Oliver Gattringer, Martin Fuss, ....but also new connections were made: i.e. Stefan Maaß (from Germany) - world-percussion), Moses Afaenyi (from GHANA - african Percussion), Mani Obeya (african Vocals)....The style goes from intelligent "worldmusic" up to hard-jazz-funk. A lot of pepper all together, fasten seatbelts, and there you go!!Rens Newland is, without a doubt, one of the most creative and productive jazz musicians within Austria. As a rule his productivity is not merely focused on playing his dear guitars, but to keep things interesting to others as to himself, he also indulges himself in composing, arranging and producing (or whatever publishing, running a record label or creating a serious bit of graphical designs through cd-cover production is being called these days).1953 Born 1953 in Holland, Rens Newland started his musical carreer playing in and for several cross-over bands. Especially Scope was pioneering and successful (eventually it even made The Billboard Jazz Charts). The band toured in The Netherlands, but also in Germany.1977 In 1977 he moved to Vienna (Austria), to play with the Austrian Radio (ORF) Big Band and the Erich Kleinschuster Sextet, performing with some European and American stars (concerts and broadcasting shows in Austria, Germany, Hungary & Switzerland). At this time he was also doing his first solo projects, like Electrio and "Newland".1981 After the dissolution of the ORF Big Band (1981), he joined Ostinato, where he was able to unfold his talents ...

Follow Your Bliss songs
$12.65 Poppa Steve Mutimer began his musical career at age 8 with his first set of drums. He took lessons from Benny Goodman’s noted big band drummer, Ray Mann, until age 12.At 15 he formed his first band, The Rhythm Kings, in hometown, Rockford, IL in 1958. The group was the first rock ‘n roll band in the city and became a huge local success for the next 3 years during high school. The Kings cut two records, both of which were regionally successful, with one tune, Maj, reaching the local Top 10 and earning a “bullet” in Billboard Magazine. After a stint in the US Navy, Steve formed his second band, The Daze & Knights, which became a back up road band for the William Morris Agency, Chicago office, working with their hit vocalists and vocal groups of the time such as The Four Tops, Bobby Goldsboro, The Chiffons, The Crystals, Jimmy Clanton, Brian Highland, Dee Dee Sharp … to name a few. This group lasted from 1965 to 1968.Leaving the road after 3 years and newly married, Steve went to work in local radio in Rockford and played drums in an immensely popular club band, The Exceptions, in South Beloit, Wisconsin until the mid 70s when he finally hung up his sticks. For the next 30 years, Steve owned his own advertising agency in Rockford and later San Diego where he wrote and produced hundreds of musical scores for client jingles, AV shows and television programs. During that time he collaborated for the first 15 years with Mike Wolf of Wolftracks Music out ...
