Angel Of Love
$12.59 When Layne Staley died from a drug overdose in 2002, it had already been several years since most Alice in Chains fans stopped hoping for a new album. The singer had become a recluse since the late-`90s, and there was little indication that AIC would ever again produce much in the way of new music. As a result, ...
| | Rosanne Cash List CD (2009)
Angel Of Love
$11.99 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a renewal and a testament to life, and it belongs to her father as much as it belongs to her, a beautiful restatement of her father's passions, only now, they've become his daughter's treasures, as well. It's an affirming story, but that's all it would be if Cash didn't sing her heart out here. The opener, a version of Jimmie Rodgers' "Miss the Mississippi and You," is full of comfortable ...

| | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Angel Of Love
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off lots of good licks and producer Kooper has some interesting tricks up his sleeve, as in the over-the-top phasing he lavishes on "You Don't Love Me." The only real disappointment here is that Stills, a far better singer than Kooper, never opens his mouth.
Those familiar with the Live Adventures ...
| | Ray LaMontagne Trouble CD (2004)
Angel Of Love
$9.69 Every once in a while a singer/songwriter comes down the pike in the grand emotive tradition of Neil Young and Van Morrison. In the early 2000s, the quietly intense folk of Iron & Wine and the rootsy-experimental stylings of Sufjan Stevens continued that lineage. Ray LaMontagne, whose impressive 2004 debut, TROUBLE, draws on alt-country, roots rock, and progressive folk in a unique, strikingly sincere way, seems a likely candidate for the keeper of the flame.
The title track, ...
| | The Ultimate Bee Gees CDs (2009)
Angel Of Love
$18.94 Functioning as something of a replacement for the 2001 collection Their Greatest Hits: The Record, The Ultimate Bee Gees covers much of the same ground as that double-disc set, albeit in not quite so linear a fashion. The Record marched through its 40 tracks chronologically, opening with the stately baroque Beatlesque ...
| | Essential Jerry Lee Lewis: The Legendary Sun Recordings CDs (2005)
Angel Of Love
$10.49 Yes, there were many compilations of Jerry Lee Lewis' Sun recordings, of various sizes, before this two-CD set. And, yes, there are better single-disc compilations for those who just want the very best and most famous stuff, and better multi-disc sets for those who want to go into his Sun catalog in depth. However, if you want more than what a standard greatest-hits collection offers but don't need a huge box set, this 40-track anthology is a good deal, even if considerably more music could have been fit onto ...
| | Bobby Singer Let's Fall In Love CD (2006)
Angel Of Love
$16.15 “The moment Bobby started singing that unexpected night in Paris, I realized he could present the American standard with a fresh, new perspective, with his acoustic guitar intertwined in arrangements with his excellent, excellent band, the audience was at once completely captivated by Mr. Singer’s voice to the sounds of Music.” Amelie Dutoit-Revue De Paris, France "A very musical CD ...
| | Honored Guests Tastes Change CD (2006)
Angel Of Love
$11.49 The Honored Guests recorded their new album, Tastes Change, at The Cabin, their studio on the outskirts of their hometown, Chapel Hill, NC. Tastes Change features The Guests' love for textured simplicity along with sensible experimentation. Recorded over the course of 6 months, while touring on and off, the band has come to a balance between what seems interesting and what seems exciting. After their inception in the fall of 2003, the band first toured as the three piece of Russell Baggett (vocals/guitar), Jeremy Buenviaje (bass), and Andrew Kinghorn (drums). Patrick O'neill (keys/guitar) was added to the band in late 2005 to flesh out the more adventurous parts of the Guests' sound.Tastes ...
| | O'Neill & Wean You Are Beautiful EP CD (2006)
Angel Of Love
$10.15 While working on OH MY GOD'S Interrogations and Confessions album in 2003, lead singer/bassist Billy O'Neill and engineer Dan Wean bonded in the studio. They inspired each other to work harder and got some amazing performances for the record. Though both are from Chicago, Dan's band, EASY TIGER, and the always touring Oh My God rarely crossed paths again except for occasionally meeting at each others shows until April of 2005. In about 7 hours, 7 songs were written in their entirety. With Billy leaving for Arizona for an extended vacation a week later, ...
