There's a reason why Frank Sinatra and Las Vegas are so closely linked: Ol' Blue Eyes was supremely comfortable in Sin City, allowing for many of his greatest performances over the decades, as revealed on this excellent 2006 four-CD/one-DVD collection of previously unreleased material. While the first two discs present Sinatra at the Sands during his 1960s heyday, the third and fourth discs consist of '80s concerts. Naturally, the '60s recordings find the Chairman of the Board in top form, as the deep-voiced crooner breezes through jazz/pop classics such as "Moonlight in Vermont" and "Come Fly with Me," the latter part of a remarkable set with Count Basie and his orchestra. However, the '80s shows are also impressive, revealing that Sinatra could still stun an audience late in his storied career, a notion further backed up by video footage of a swinging late-'70s concert at Caesar's Palace.

A fantastic chronological journey through the life, times and music of this incredible entertainer. An encapsulated collection set in context. A must for any serious fan.

This set is priceless!
Alone the alternate cd of the Count Basie Band in full power with the Voice, NOT the famous one that was already releadsed several years and times ago, but new, never-released material, is worth the price of the entire box.
But there is much more to enjoy, you have 4 cd's with Vegas-concerts, the earlies recorded in 1961, the latest in 1987 and on top of that a dvd with a concert of 1978.
Of course this is the way to listen to Frankie-boy, live, joking, enjoying what he does, playing with the audience, he's like a fish in the water, and it shows.
The entire box is too much!
You can't listen to 5 Sinatra-concerts one-after-another!
So enjoy this the way it should be done: play just one concert a day, and when you did all 5 after a week or so, listen to the concerts once again and discover all the fine things you didn't notice the first time.
It's like caviaar: too much will ruin everything.
And don't forget the marvelous booklet of 64 pages, great chapters and photographs!
Certainly Sinatra is at his best when he is acting during moments he performs as a saloon-singer.
And there are many of those moments here.(Angel Eyes !)
One can wonder why all these fine treasures were under the dust for this long, but never mind that, we can enjoy it now, and discover once again why Sinatra was the greatest of them all.
This box is the ultimate Christmas-gift, or/and the ultimate gift for every time of the year.
But you deserve a present yourself too, don't you?

Sinatra is relaxed and swinging in this set of live Las Vegas performances. In addition to enjoyable renderings of favorite tunes -- a lot of up-tempo numbers and some beautiful ballads, too -- there are some amusing monologues. A bonus is the DVD that shows a Sinatra concert but begins backstage as the Chairman gets ready to wow his audience.
