(1 Customer Review)
One of the most overlooked albums in Journey's catalogue, DREAM AFTER DREAM is the band's soundtrack for a little-seen 1980s Japanese film of the same name. On these tracks, most of which are instrumental, the San Francisco-based rock group indulges in its more progressive and ornate tendencies, with former Santana members Neal Schon (guitar) and Gregg Rolie (keyboards), in particular, cutting loose (see "Destiny"). (Rolie would soon leave Journey, with Jonathan Cain serving as his replacement.) While vocalist Steve Perry's presence on the record is minimal, he joins in on the lovelorn ballad "Little Girl," easily making it the highlight of the album. Though not essential, DREAM AFTER DREAM is a fine example of Journey's underrated musicianship, and recommended for devoted fans.

Also available with INFINITY on 1 cassette. With Next, Journey began to break away from the jazzy progressive rock inclinations that dominated their first two albums, yet without a forceful lead vocalist like Steve Perry, the group lacks focus and a pop sensibility, and its attempts at straight-ahead pop/rock suffer considerably as a result. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine With Next, Journey began to break away from the jazzy progressive rock inclinations that dominated their first two albums in favor of straight-ahead pop/rock. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Of all of Journey's early pre-Steve Perry albums, 1977's NEXT is one of the best. Dream After Dream
$6.89 Journey: Gregg Rolie (vocals, keyboards); Neal Schon (guitar, background vocals); George Tickner (guitar); Ross Valory (piano, bass, background vocals); Aynsley Dunbar (drums). Recorded at CBS Studios, San Francisco, California. On their eponymous debut album, Journey were still trying to find their signature sound. They relied too much on prog rock, filling the album with meandering jazz-rock instrumentals that never quite catch fire. Furthermore, their pop songs are ill-formed and lack hooks -- in short, they are too mainstream for the progressive audience and too unfocused for the pop audience. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine On their eponymous debut album, Journey were still trying to find their signature sound, incorporating prog rock, jazz-rock instrumentals, and pop songs. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine After splitting their backing musician gig with guitar legend Carlos ...

| | Will Johnson Paper & Fire CD (2004)
Dream After Dream
$15.19 Inspired at a young age by guitar heroes like Jimi Hendrix and Joe Satriani, Will H. Johnson followed in their footsteps before gradually melding into an acoustic singer-songwriter. By practicing along with his favorite CDs and honing his performance skills at talent shows and guitar contests, Johnson quickly gained a sense of stage presence. The early years culminated in numerous accolades, including 1st place at '95 Battle of the Bands, qualifying for the finals at The Great Alaska Riff Contest in both '94 and '95, a coveted "1" at Solo & Ensemble, and a send-off performance at Sullivan Arena for his graduating class. In 1996, Johnson felt the need to explore songwriting. After grinding out a handful of originals, he fronted the folk-rock band No Preservatives Added. After hastily recording a low-budget CD, the band would prove to be short lived. One member resigned, and those remaining were conflicted by stylistic differences. In the meantime, Johnson at last won the Great Alaska Riff guitar contest ('98), and also discovered a knack for the game of Poker. With the band finished, and the Poker craze sweeping the nation, Johnson shelved his music to concentrate on Poker for several years.Starting fresh, Johnson attended the Alaska Midnight Sun Song Camp in the Summer of 2002. Workshops with other songwriters proved inspirational, and soon he was playing gigs again. After a chance meeting with musician Sean Mormelo at an open mic night in Anchorage, Johnson told his story. Mormelo offered his services and the two immediately began recording "Paper & Fire" (released 2004).After an 2 year change of scenery in Washington State, Johnson has returned to Alaska to regroup and record a new batch of songs; The album is tentatively titled "Highway of Souls"...VENUES WILL HAS PLAYED:North Slope Restaruant, Eagle River, AKSleepy Dog Coffee, Eagle River, ...
