| | Grass Roots All Time Greatest Hits CD (1996)
Elements Of Rejuvenation CD music
$7.19 This low-priced disc is far and away the best single-CD compilation ever issued of the Grass Roots' work, 16 chart singles covering every phase of their history, from 1966's "Where Were You When I Needed You" (in its actual hit version) thru "Let's Live for Today" and "Midnight Confessions" to their last hit, 1972's "The Runway." Listening to this 44-minute compilation, one not only encounters a superb array of catchy songs (and even some of the lesser hits, like the number 61-charting "Come On and Say It" and the number 34-charting "Glory Bound," are compelling pieces of soul-based pop/rock) but also virtuoso production and playing. The material has been remastered in state-of-the-art sound, giving one a chance to appreciate the production and engineering ...
| | Claude Challe Buddha-Bar, Vol. II CDs
Elements Of Rejuvenation music CDs
$42.69 Claude Challe's Buddha-Bar, Vol. II compilation has elements of Far Eastern spirituality, African song, European electronica, and Spanish spice. The first album, Buddha-Bar, is very mellow for the most part. Deepak Chopra and Demi Moore, far and away the most recognizable names on the album, do a spoken word ditty on love and self-worth. People who are not fans of new age doctrine will appreciate artists such as Oliver Shanti and Consuelo Luz, both of whom contribute songs that manage to sound musical, spiritual and ethnic at once. The second album varies from hallucinatory to groovy to fairly high-energy. "Tears Inshalla" will appeal to fans of Eastern-influenced trance. Lyrics are of almost no importance on the album. They do exist on most tracks, but they bounce around from English to Portuguese to Arabic. Bits and pieces and snatches of ...

| | Godspell: 2001 National Touring Cast Recording CD (2001)
Elements Of Rejuvenation music CDs
$13.89 Music composed by Stephen Schwartz. Lyrics written by Stephen Schwartz.
Beginning in 1971, the original production of Godspell ran for more than six years in New York, and long before it closed there were satellite companies performing the religious pop/rock show around the U.S. and throughout the world. In a sense, the musical never stopped running, since it continued to be performed regularly by professional and amateur companies in the ensuing decades. This 30th anniversary recording is unusual in that national touring companies are not typically graced with their own cast albums, but it gives a good idea of current interpretations of what is now a venerable show. Composer Stephen Schwartz gives his blessing in a sleeve note, which must mean that he is willing to accept responsibility for this updated version, though it is inferior to previous ones. The original score was written and arranged in a contemporary pop style, circa 1971, which meant that the ballads were ...

| | Best Of The Springers: Nothing's Too Good For My Baby CD (2002)
Elements Of Rejuvenation music CDs
$12.89 The Springers didn't have as much personality or distinction as many better-known soul groups from Philadelphia or elsewhere, and some of their recorded efforts were ordinary. Still, groups that are unknown, not major innovators, and not stylistically immediately identifiable can still produce some good sounds. The Best of the Springers: Nothing's Too Good for My Baby (a deceptive title considering that they put out hardly anything and never had hits) can be confidently recommended to anyone who likes good, well-produced '60s Philly soul or is interested in the roots of the sound in which the likes of Thom Bell (who arranged at least some of these cuts) got their feet wet. Of these 16 sides (all recorded in 1965 and 1966), ten tracks (some alternate versions) were previously unissued and six were released on rare singles, ...
