(2 Customer Reviews)
Diana Ross rightly belongs in the pantheon of essential pop artists, and the appearance of 2007's DREAMGIRLS, a film based on the rise of the Supremes, made her legendary star shine all the brighter. Though not as strong as Ross's best work from the past, her 2007 solo album, I LOVE YOU, is a nice, safe collection of romantic standards, ballads, and contemporary covers.
The material ranges from classic pop (Bacharach-David's "The Look of Love," for example) to vintage R&B (the Platters' "Only You") to seemingly odd but still enjoyable choices (Berlin's "You Take My Breath Away" and the Spiral Staircase's "More Today Than Yesterday"). The arrangements are straightforward, and Ross's performances are enjoyable, if a bit timid, but die-hard fans of the great singer will still appreciate her take on these fine, well-known tunes.

I Love You songs
$12.79 After 19 years, Grace Jones finally releases a new studio album, and it's a weird one, nostalgic and timeless in equal measure. Her collaborators (including Brian Eno, Tricky, Wendy & Lisa, Sly & Robbie, Tony Allen, and others) set up instrumental backdrops that explicitly recall not only her own early-'80s albums, but also those albums' influence on the later work of Massive Attack, Tricky, et al. At the same time, Jones' old lyrical persona -- the androgynous cyber-demon who uses scorn as an erotic weapon -- has been largely abandoned; only on "Corporate Cannibal" does that version of her reappear, atop a track that sounds inspired by Massive Attack's "Inertia Creeps." Instead, we get a nostalgic, autobiographical Grace Jones, which is interesting and pretty much totally unexpected. The songs "William's Blood" and "I'm Crying (Mother's Tears)" find the now 60-year-old Jones looking ...

$13.15 The combination of jazz and guitar, whether in a group setting or duo, has frequently been associated with swing. This stretches back further than Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli to players like guitarist Eddie Lang and violist Joe Venuti in the 1920s; the tradition, however, also moves forward in time, including work by Stuff Smith with guitarist Herb Ellis in 1963 and numerous recordings by groups put together by Tony Rice and David Grisman beginning in the '70s. Despite the long history, the guitar/fiddle combination is ...

We are hopeful that our songs may, in some way, bring happiness and comfort to people in this World and maybe if we all work together we can stop some of the pollution in the air, and maybe clean up the Rivers and Streams and The Oceans, and spread some love and harmony... and promote Peace". David adds, "Prayer is a Powerful Thing, years ago, I was home-less ...and just look what people's prayers have done for me...my wife Dixie's prayers and my friends and family's prayers, all that I have today... from the generosity of my friends ...
