(2 Customer Reviews)
Recorded and filmed at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall in England at the end of their 2004 tour, this CD/DVD set is one of the band's strongest performances ever, featuring stunning renditions of their classics.
With 2006's live album LONG JOURNEY HOME arriving two full decades after their indie debut WHITES OFF EARTH NOW, Canadian alt-country superstars the Cowboy Junkies proved to be still going strong. Although the narcotic blend of country twang and slowcore moodiness that's implicit in their name has never left the band's music, the Cowboy Junkies have developed many different shades of gray in their chiaroscuro sound. Hearing early songs like the plaintive ballad "Misguided Angel" and the bluesy swagger of "Cause Cheap Is How I Feel" on this live recording from 2004, it's evident that the band, and in particular singer Margo Timmins' rich and multi-faceted vocals, have only gotten better with age. A nearly 12-minute meander through their signature deconstruction of the Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane" caps the set, which is released with a bonus live DVD.
