This limited-edition collection of live recordings from Red House Painter Mark Kozelek spans the laconic singer/songwriter and occasional actor's entire career. Culled from various European and North American shows between 2003 and 2006, Little Drummer Boy Live is a sparse (he's joined on occasion by longtime guitarist/collaborator Phil Carney) but completely engrossing scrapbook of solo works and RHP and Sun Kil Moon classics such as "Mistress," "Down Colorful Hill" and "Glenn Tipton." ~ James Christopher Monger

Little Drummer Boy
$9.89 An unlikely classic, Mark Kozelek's 2001 LP WHAT'S NEXT TO THE MOON reimagines AC/DC's balls-to-the-wall rock as indie pop lullabies-or Red House Painters or Sun Kil Moon songs (the singer-songwriter's much-loved projects of the 1990s & `00s respectively). Far from resorting to a gimmick, Kozelek sticks with lesser-known compositions by the Australian band, discovering the tortured longing beneath songs which at face value might seem mere odes to sex and the hard rocking life.
10 songs arranged by Mark Kozelek with lyrics by the legendary AC/DC singer, Bon Scott. This album is a beautiful acoustic treasure from one of the greatest singer/songwriter's of our generation.Rolling Stone gave Mark Kozelek's debut solo album "Rock 'N' Roll Singer" 3 1/2 stars! Amazon.com awarded "Rock 'N' Roll Singer" one of the "Best of 2000."It's been four years since Red House Painters ...
| | Emmylou Harris Stumble Into Grace CD (2003)
Little Drummer Boy
$12.39 STUMBLE INTO GRACE was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
Over three decades into a highly successful career as an interpreter of other writers' material, Emmylou Harris beats the odds by releasing her second consecutive album of original compositions. She's had plenty of time to learn from the best, and the lessons gained from digging into the work of writers like Gram Parsons, Leonard Cohen, and Townes Van Zandt can be felt here, even if she can't be expected to equal their mastery. She works again with members of the Spyboy band that helped reinvent Harris's sound on WRECKING BALL, but as on RED DIRT GIRL, the churning, rhythmic feel of the former is underplayed in favor of ...

| | Puddle Shakespeare Monkey CD (2009) (Import)
Little Drummer Boy
$16.59 New Zealand psych-pop pioneers The Puddle, a revolving line-up of musicians assembled around the unstable core of George D. Henderson, have been around, in one form or another, since 1984. Three albums and a 7” single on Flying Nun between 1986 and 1993 attracted critical appreciation and notoriety in equal measures for “pop as shambling and sweet as you could possibly imagine”. In 1993 The Puddle toughened up and recorded the brainy outsider rock album, “Songs for Emily Valentine”, but, apart from a 1995 single on a French label, the SFEV recordings were not released until 2005. Then, in 2007 The Puddle released the acclaimed “No Love – No Hate” adding a further unexpected twist in the long, strange and frequently derailed odyssey of this unique NZ musical institution which “The Shakespeare Monkey” continues. This, the Puddle’s 6th album in over 25 years (and only the 4th studio album to be released), sees George joined by Gavin Shaw (Sferic Experiment, Children’s Television Workshop) on bass and brother Ian Henderson (The Dark Beaks) once again on drums to deliver a wildly diverse collection of tunes. The subject matter is as eclectic as ever too, ranging from populist philosopher Colin Wilson (“As it Was”), dead poets (“One Romantic Gesture”), film stars (“Milk”), infinite probability (“the Shakespeare Monkey”), the Greek god Pan (“Seduced by Virgins”) and human excess (“High on the Hog”). “Led by George D. Henderson this Dunedin band is on fire right now, with two great albums in as many years following more than two decades of illness, addiction, incarceration and patchy pop action. Such tender vocals, such wonky guitars, such marvelous meandering arrangements, such knowing meditations on human frailty – indie pop comes no better” Sunday Star Times (NZ)"Beautifully resigned guitar pop...full of the kind of articulate and well-read pop songs that made Henderson's home country the epicentre of literate guitar music in the 1980s and '90s." Uncut (UK)"This unexpected new album encapsulates perfectly that distinctly velvety Aotearoan drone-pop sound...the tortoise of New Zealand rock finally honours his forgotten promise."Sunday Times (UK)"The Shakespeare Monkey represents the pinnacle of the indie pop craft in Aotearoa. It's an album that, at 17 tracks long, is best (and easily) absorbed in a single sitting, where its lovely ebb and flow can best be appreciated." ...
