| | Laura Pausini Io Canto CD (2006)
En Vivo songs
$7.55 Laura Pausini, a multilingual Italian pop singer who won a Latin Grammy in 2005 for Best Female Pop Vocal Album, decided to record an album of cover songs when she returned to the studio to record her follow-up effort. This is a fairly standard practice for pop/rock artists, of course, especially in the wake of a mammoth success like the one Pausini experienced with Resta in Ascolto (released concurrently in Spanish as Escucha in the Americas). Yo Canto (likewise released concurrently in Spanish) is a somewhat unusual covers album, however, for it's comprised of Italian pop/rock songs from the 1970s, '80s, and '90s -- few, if any, of which will be familiar to listeners across the Atlantic. Pausini performs the songs in a manner similar to that of Resta in Ascolto: the songs are heavily produced, layered with guitar, bass, and drums in addition to strings and synthesizers, and the performances are quite dramatic, often soaring to intense ...
| | World Psychedelic Classics 1: Brazil: The Best Of Os Mutantes: Everything Is Possible! CD (1999)
En Vivo album
$10.25 To listen to this collection is to know that in the '60s, ground zero for "pure pop genius" was not only located in England or the U.S., but in turbulent, bubbling Brazil. This collection presents the very cream of the crazy cream of Os Mutantes, ...

| | Miles Davis Doo-Bop CD (1992)
En Vivo music CDs
$6.45 This is the recording Miles Davis was working on when he checked into the hospital in mid-September of 1991. With his passing on the 28th of September, a major epoch in American music came to a close. Somewhere in the back of his mind he probably knew that he was living on borrowed time, because earlier that summer he'd finally consented to make a nostalgic return to the classic music that emerged from his collaborations with Gil Evans (MILES & QUINCY AT MONTREAUX). But as the contemporary sounds of DOO-BOP indicate, Miles Davis was incapable of sustained backwards glances.
As the rapology of J.R., A.B. Money and Easy Mo Bee on "The Doo-Bop Song," "Blow" and "Fantasy" indicates, Miles and his collaborators were still feeling each other out in terms of themes and context. The ...
| | Ouba A1 Freak Out Total CD (1968)
En Vivo songs
$11.59 More than anything psychedelic (or North American, for that matter) from the era, Ouba sounds like something off the German Krautrock scene, perhaps Can without the structural discipline or the wealth of ideas. The lack of discipline is, more than anything, a matter of the recording's genesis. A1 Freak Out Total, as the title alone implies, was an off-the-cuff, in-studio, freak-out jam, a vamp on certain riffs and (especially) rhythms to which the music frequently returns like organizational motifs, rather than anything remotely resembling songs. On top of that, the four culprits -- all friends and outstanding instrumentalists ...

| | Mcgowan CD (2005)
En Vivo music CDs
$12.69 Describing the road to his own music, Mcgowan notes, "I grew up with traditional folk and classical music played on NPR. I was about 5 or 6 when I heard the Beatles and the Stones and my little world caved in to rock and roll. A little later there was a long period of listening to reggae - lots of Marley - he was a major force, musically and spiritually." This led Mcgowan to play in teenage rock band, Christopher's Pocket, which brought him from rural New Hampshire to Philadelphia - his home prior to New York. After the Pocket scruffed out of existence in early 1999, Mcgowan began playing guitar-for-hire at studio sessions and for several east coast bands to pay the bills, but also realized he could and should step out and start singing his own songs. He began to slowly build a following by playing coffeehouses and clubs from Boston to Baltimore, all the while working on forming the perfect band to back up his songs.A break from his own music came in 2002 when he joined Ben Lee's band. It was during his two year world-wide excursion with Ben that Mcgowan took a detour to Philadelphia-based drummer/engineer/producer Jesse Honig's temporary home in St. Louis - which resulted in the recordings that have become the album ...
