Singing entirely in English, this Spanish group offers rock that sounds influenced by both 1960s rock and 1960s revivalists on Take Me Take Me. And as is the case when the originals go through more generations, the freshness fades more with each iteration. This release also marks a new phase in this artist's carrer, having chosen to release it under his given name, no longer using the stage name "J.C."; as he simply put it:"There are too many other people using it, and it was beginning to be very annoying. Plus, people were having a hard time finding my music, they'd type in 'J.C.' and 20 names would pop up, so, that had to go". A well rounded record, It was produced by up and coming producer Issac Arms,aka "Romeo, the beat king". Romeo is Katy, Texas's best kept secret, and is on the verge of blowing up at any given time!This album has a great balance of party songs and concious tunes. Willie K. and Eric Gilliom have a history of playing around and having fun, and this album is certainly no exception. The core of the music is built around the slack key, but not in the traditional formats. Normally, a good slack key or two would be the sole inhabitants of a piece of music, with maybe some vocals gently laid over the top. Here, the songs generally make use of a full band and dueling slack keys. The songs aren't the gentle pieces of delicate beauty that slack key is known for -- they're romping, rocking numbers ranging from something close to traditional all the way up to a rock-fusion piece that seems to exude elements of both gospel and Journey-style power ballads. Across the board, though, as the album romps and slithers between serenity and speed, it's always good fun. These two fine musicians have been hanging around together for a long time now -- they can play off of one another with ease, and it's rather clear in the result.
