Anything For A Laugh album
$14.38 Glitter and Doom Live, a double-disc set, marks Tom Waits' third live effort in his nearly 40-year career, each one summing up his career to the point of its release. The first, Nighthawks at the Diner issued in 1975 on Asylum, is regarded by many as one of the greatest live albums of all time. The second was Big Time, released during his tenure at Island in 1986. The musical performances on disc one of Glitter and Doom Live were culled from Waits' historic sold-out tour of the U.S. and Europe. He compiled and sequenced the set himself, intending to make them sound like a single show. The material leans, understandably, on his recordings with the Anti label. There are stellar performances here, such as "Get Behind the Mule" from The Mule Variations, "Trampled Rose" from Real Gone, and a haunting version of Leadbelly's "Fannin Street" from Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards, to mention just three of the 17 cuts here. But he goes back to his Island albums too. For instance, there are completely re-visioned readings of "Lucky Day" and "I'll Shoot the Moon" from 1993's Black Rider, and a killer -- though equally revamped -- version of "Singapore" from ...
| | Sting If On A Winter's Night... CDs (2009) Digipak
Anything For A Laugh CD music
$14.19 It's no secret that Sting is a serious man, so it's only logical that his holiday album -- his first new music since the Police reunion, not that it really matters -- is a serious endeavor, thank you. No niceties for him, no comforts of carols; he favors formal over familiar, writing madrigals, not ditties. It is music made by someone who lives in a castle, which isn't necessarily such a bad thing: the austerity is genuine, not affected, and ...

| | Rod Stewart Never A Dull Moment (Gold) CD (1972) Gold
Anything For A Laugh album
$19.10 NEVER A DULL MOMENT picks up where EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY left off. Here we have more raucous rock & roll with healthy dollops of soul and twang thrown in for good measure. Always looking for a good songwriter to cover, Stewart's honorees here include Jimi Hendrix ("Angel"), Dylan ("Mama You Been On My Mind"), and Rod's personal hero, Sam Cooke ("Twistin' The Night Away"). Sidling up nicely next to these heartfelt interpretations are some ...
| | Halford III: Winter Songs CD (2009) Special Edition; Digipak
Anything For A Laugh CD music
$13.75 At first glance, Halford's entry into the crowded holiday market looks like a parody. Heavy metal and Christmas make for strange bedfellows, and WINTER SONGS' pastoral cover art -- which depicts Rob Halford ...
| | Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band CD (1967)
Anything For A Laugh music CDs
$20.19 Includes a 28-page booklet with rare photos, notes on the recording sessions and lyrics.
Additional personnel includes: Neil Aspinall (tamboura, harmonica); Mal
Evans (harmonica, alarm clock); George Martin (piano, harmonium,
Wurlitzer organ, organ); Sounds Incorporated (saxophone, French
Includes liner notes by George Martin, Mark Lewisohn and Peter Blake.
One of the most famous and influential albums ever recorded, SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND had a huge impact on the music world, signaling the beginning of a new era of sophistication and maturity in rock. The musical experimentation was dynamic and fresh, several tracks were edited to create seamless transitions, and even the visual design was more elaborate than anything previously attempted.
Producer George Martin and The Beatles searched for new sounds and studio effects. They added crowd sounds and animal cries from sound-effects recordings, sped up Paul McCartney's vocals in "When I'm Sixty-Four" (to make him sound younger), and sustained a single piano chord for 40 seconds to end "A Day In The Life." The orchestrations, scored by Martin, were hailed by critics as bridging the gap between pop and classical music, and many people who had never bought a rock ...
| | Daryl Sherman Jubilee CD (2000)
Anything For A Laugh songs
$9.59 This CD of old standards, as performed by singer Daryl Sherman with pianist Dave McKenna, celebrates simultaneously the centennials of Fred Astaire, Hoagy Carmichael, Noel Coward, and especially Duke Ellington. Sherman's background includes both cabaret and jazz, and her friendly swinging style adds just the right touch to complement McKenna's rhythmic piano. A bouncing "Tulip ...
| | Man Definitive Collection CDs (2000)
Anything For A Laugh album
$15.45 This collection contains tracks from the albums REVELATION and 2 OZ. OF PLASTIC WITH A HOLE IN THE MIDDLE, as well as songs by Man's earlier incarnation The Bystanders.
Even though the first disc of this two-CD set is a combination of both the Revelation and 2 Ozs of Plastic With a Hole in the Middle albums, it's still considered a definitive collection, since it wholly captures Man's free-spirited feel. Similar to Quicksilver Messenger Service in their psychedelic sound and "groovy" aura, Man's music was novel and, at times, whimsical. Remastered and sounding fresh, this band's plunge into organ-churning psychedelia and far-out lyrics is at ...

| | Doug Hoekstra Waiting CD (2003)
Anything For A Laugh songs
$11.19 Doug Hoekstra has built his reputation as a literate singer-songwriter. His deep whisper of a voice recalls Lou Reed, and the minimal electric arrangements of Waiting are reminiscent of the Velvet Underground circa 1968. Songs like "Theresa" project a dark world where five-year-old girls stand as lookouts for inner-city gangs and twelve-year-old girls sell their babies on the black market. The material ...
