Since his mainstream American breakthrough, Ricky Martin has been associated largely with slick dance-pop. One of the pleasant surprises of this MTV UNPLUGGED set is that it finds Martin returning to an earlier, more organic sound. The UNPLUGGED aesthetic suggests a quiet, stripped-down approach, but that's not necessarily the case here. Martin has a huge band behind him, including horns and strings, but the inventive arrangements and straightforward approach--not to mention the Spanish-only lyrics--present the artist in a refreshingly natural context. The sharp, dynamic performances, on the part of both Martin and his band, don't hurt matters, either. At no point does Ricky Martin's MTV Unplugged sound like an intimate acoustic performance. Like most of the acts on MTV Unplugged since Eric Clapton's Unplugged, Martin brings in a full band, complete with electric bass and keyboards, so even if there are no electric guitars, it sounds big, full, and polished, particularly since his band is augmented by strings and horns. It may not be small-scale, the way that Unplugged was in its earliest days, but the concert does have the effect of stripping Martin back to his basics -- which means that he does no English-language pop and avoids all the silly dance-pop that became his stock-in-trade after "Livin' la Vida Loca," while also avoiding the desperate nature of his 2005 studio album Life. What's left is the power of Martin as a live performer, and he's in good form here, delivering energetic performances of the up-tempo songs and avoiding schmaltz in the ballads. It's an album for the faithful -- instead of stretching, Martin is relying on his strengths -- but it will satisfy those who still stand by Ricky Martin after all the ups and downs in his career. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Ricky Martin MTV Unplugged Songs MTV Unplugged Music Review Average Rating: (4.2 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Ricky Number One In The World Ricky I Love Yoooooooou, and Your New album Mtv unplugged is Very Beautiful and all of your albums the best in the world and u r (THE BEST SINGER IN THE WORLD)IN ALL TIMES Submitted by fady (lyon, france) Was This Review Helpful? FANTASTIC! I love this CD. This is a great album. I would recommend it to anyone who likes latino music. Ricky is a great artist and he proved that again with this performance. And even though I don't know a single word in Spanish, I think the songs are magical and the rhythm is unbelievable. His music defends itself amazingly. Buy it and you won't regret it for sure! $8.69 Live Recording
Dokken: Don Dokken, Jonathan Levin (guitar); Barry Sparks (bass guitar); Mick Brown . Personnel: Don Dokken (vocals); Mick Brown (drums, background vocals); Barry Sparks (background vocals). Audio Mixers: Brian Daugherty; Wyn Davis. Recording information: Total Access, Rodondo Beach, CA. Photographer: Mark Weiss. Singer Don Dokken and drummer Mick Brown may be all that's left of the original Dokken, but the group's signature blend of pop and heavy metal has changed little since their late-'80s heyday. The problem is, they were never that interesting to begin with. On Hell to Pay, the role of ex-guitar legend George Lynch is played by ex-Warlock axe slinger John Levin, and the ...

| | Alejandro Sanz El Tren De Los Momentos CD (2006)
MTV Unplugged
$8.69 Personnel: Alejandro Sanz (vocals). On 2006's EL TREN DE LOS MOMENTOS, gritty-voiced Spanish pop singer Alejandro Sanz continues building on the momentum that started with his appearance on Shakira's FIJACION ORAL VOL. 1. Standout tracks on this U.S. breakthrough album include the gentle, mid-tempo ballad "A La Primera Persona" and the funky, percussive "Te Lo Agradezco Pero No," which features the aforementioned hip-shaking Colombian diva. Released in the wake of Alejandro Sanz's collaboration with Shakira, "La Tortura," which was far and away the most popular Latin song of 2005, El Tren de los Momentos is a continuation of the broad stylistic excursions of the Spanish superstar's previous album, the Grammy-winning No ...

MTV Unplugged
$8.99 This CD/DVD combination pack features Celine Dion's entire show at Ceasars Palace with 13 live tracks. The DVD features a 45 minute bonus entitled "One Year, One Heart." The DVD follows Celine throughout 2003, recording her CD & creating her Las Vegas show.
Initial pressings include a bonus DVD disc. Personnel: Celine Dion (vocals); Andre Coutu (guitar); Yves Frulla (keyboards); Mark Langis (bass guitar); Dominique Messier (drums); Paul Picard (percussion). After two studio records, an intensive media campaign for a large automobile company, a new perfume fragrance, and a successful tour and residency in Las Vegas, one would reason that Celine Dion is long overdue for yet another sabbatical after a rather intensive 18-month span. However, this is not to be the case. This live document of the Las Vegas show drives home the point that Celine is one of the most potent entertainers in adult ...
