Sorpresa La Flauta music CDs
$7.69 Following the '90s, a decade in which she rose to iconic status amid the contemporary salsa scene, India was relatively quiet, releasing an album every few years or so, without all the fanfare she enjoyed during the '90s. Soy Diferente is one of those post-'90s albums, and like its predecessor, Latin Songbird: Mi Alma y Corazón, it arrived after a few years of inactivity. Its modest release belies its exceptionality, however. Soy ...

| | Village Stompers Washington Square CD (1964)
Sorpresa La Flauta CD music
$6.45 Washington Square is a straight reissue of the 1997 CD reissue of the Village Stompers' 1964 album. It features ten cuts of the former collegiate Dixieland band (which made no less than six LPs in four years at the height of the folk revival!) at its most gimmicky and good-natured. Almost an in-joke, Washington Square, with its title and the band's name, evokes images of an earnest strolling coffeehouse band, and the repertoire here reflects that, from the New Christy Minstrels' "Green, Green" and "Walk Right In" to the Weavers' "If I Had a Hammer" to Richard Harris' "Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport" to the inclusion ...
| | Bonnie Bramlett It's Time/Lady's Choice CD (2004) (Import) Remastered; Australia
Sorpresa La Flauta music CDs
$19.99 Raven Records has an uncanny knack for reissuing the right lost rock, country, and R&B titles. This pairing of Bonnie Bramlett's second and third solo outings after she and Delaney divorced is a case in point. Originally issued on Capricorn, both of these recordings -- dating from 1974 and 1976, respectively -- were produced by the great Johnny Sandlin of Allman Brothers fame. There is no attempt to reach the pop charts with these; they are both solid rock and R&B outings with a cast of musicians that would make anybody's head spin. On It's Time, Gregg Allman, Butch Trucks, Jaimoe, and Chuck Leavell from the Allmans all lend a hand, as do Eddie Hinton, Clydie King, Randall Bramblett, and a cast of two-dozen others. On Lady's Choice, Dickey Betts and Barry Beckett join the fold as well. Bramlett's voice is in fine form through this two-fer, doing singular interpretations of songs such as Hinton's "Cover Me" and "Where You Come From," as well as a funky version of the Jackie Wilson signature soul nugget "Higher & Higher" (before Rita Coolidge's revival read of it), Ivory Joe Hunter's "Since I Met You Baby," and Gregg and Janice Allman's "Oncoming Traffic." Her performance is right-from-the-heart gritty Southern soul. On the latter set, her reads of soul classics such as David Porter and Isaac Hayes' "Hold On, I'm Comin'," Sam Cooke's "You Send Me," Gamble & Huff's "Never Gonna Give You Up," Jimmy Reed's "Ain't That Loving You Baby," and Ashford & Simpson's "Let's Go Get Stoned" are more than just inspired, they are revelatory. There are a few surprises here as well, such as the proto-soul version of Gloria Jones' "If I Were Your Woman." In addition, the reads of the early Motown hit "You Really Got a Hold On Me" and Hank Ballard's "Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go," as fine as they are, are merely setups for an absolutely riveting and radical ...

| | Terre Differenti Cities Of Dreams CD (2005)
Sorpresa La Flauta album
$11.15 Cities of Dreams is a symbolic place, both within and on the exterior, representing the deep essence of our anxiety and hopes. The desert is the original earth, the ancestral "humus" from which the babelic stream of languages and cultures grows enriched with human experience. The mood of the songs is an original mix of ethnic influences, rock and progressive suggestions with a distinct jazz contamination. The lyrics are projections of virtual and true realities, between dream, vision and poetry. They are interpreted by four different singers, each contributing to make "Cities of Dreams" a journey through different lands and emotional moods. This new work increases the experimentation and the fusion between different musical styles which are evident when listening to the first CD of Terre Differenti. The arrangements use ancient and ethnic instruments intermingled with electronic sounds. Voices and melodies are treated beyond classical models and produce ethereal, oniric feelings. Listening to "Cities of Dreams" is like making a journey in different lands, between dream and reality, through unexplored and profound dimensions of the soul.It follows an interview with the OPENSOUND producer Antonio Arena. Q: When did you come across Terre Differenti for the first time?A: The first contact, with Fabio Armani, founder and soul of Terre Differenti, was in 1997, during the mixing of the Advena Avis ensemble's album "Da terre lontane". Fabio was the leader of the band and came to mix the CD in my recording studio. I liked the Advena Avis project from the start: it was a mix of middle age and ethnic themes with sophisticated electronic sonorities. The style was something between Dead Can Dance and Loreena Mc Kennith. We worked for a month in incredible harmony and the CD we produced reflected this enthusiastic atmosphere. After that, we lost sight of each other. I continued composing soundtrack music, and in the meantime set up the independent label Opensound with Silvio Piersanti and Augusto Arena. Fabio continued with his musical projects, expanding his interests and contacts with artists of different cultures and experiences until he established the multi ethnic ensemble Terre Differenti. With this band he produced the first world fusion album in the year 2000.Q: How did you come to produce "Cities of Dreams"?A: When with OPENSOUND we decided to make a production music library, I realized that Fabio Armani could certainainly contribute. His music, ...
