(1 Customer Review)
BLESSED BE is the fifth release from Finnish rockers the 69 Eyes. It includes the songs "Framed in Blood," "Chair," and "Wages of Sin," among others. The 69 Eyes: Jyrki (vocals); Bazie, Timo-Timo (guitar); Archzie (bass guitar); Jussi 69 (drums). Released in the same year (2000) as their popular album PARIS KILLS, BLESSED BE doesn't represent a big step forward for the 69 Eyes, but that's hardly a problem for a band who mine the horror-rock genre so convincingly and deftly. The song "Brandon Lee" tells you everything you need to know about these CROW-loving Finnish goth-rockers: pounding rhythms, glossy guitars, and Jyrki 69's velvety smooth basso profundo ape the best aspects of the Stooges, the Cult, and the Doors. The 69 Eyes' previous album stormed onto the Finnish album chart, and the intention surely was that Blessed Be would do the same. Blessed Be is very straightforward goth rock aimed just for radio. Even though listeners may not expect a lot from a goth rock band, the 69 Eyes still recycle the same old ideas, and as an album, Blessed Be is utterly boring. Sure, single hits such as "Gothic Girl" and "Brandon Lee" may sound okay, but as a whole it is hard to listen to this all the way through because of its repetitiveness. The 69 Eyes' only catch seems to be their imago: low vocals, heavy guitars, and a gothic look. And that, naturally, is not a condition for a good album if there isn't anything else to offer. ~ Antti J. Ravelin 69 Eyes Blessed Be Songs | 1. | Framed in Blood | |

| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Blessed Be
$6.39 The Corrs: Jim Corr (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Sharon Corr (vocals, violin); Andrea Corr (vocals, tin whistle); Caroline Corr (vocals, drums, bodhran, percussion). Recorded at Ardmore Studios in Dublin, Ireland in January 2002. You knew the Corrs had made it when they played the final JFK Awards ceremony of the Clinton administration. Playing it would have been achievement enough, but their status as a happening thing was cemented at the end of the ceremony, during the encores, when everybody was taking their final bows. Bill moseyed up over to Andrea, put his arm around her, and when she was looking away, sized her up -- at precisely the same moment Chuck Berry was checking her out. If that doesn't mean that you've broken America, entering its pop culture, I don't know what does, expect for maybe a VH1-endorsed piece of product like Live in Dublin. Lo and behold, that's exactly what the Corrs received in the spring of 2002, a year and a half after "In Blue" and its accompanying single "Breathless" broke down the doors in America for the U.S. Only two songs on this set list are shared with In Blue, but that doesn't mean ...

| | Dredg Catch Without Arms CD (2005)
Blessed Be
$8.49 Personnel: Nathan Calvin (vocals). Audio Mixer: Terry Date. Recording information: Studio Litho, Seattle, WA. Editor: Ingrid Erickson. Arranger: Chris DeGarmo. It makes sense that Terry Date produced Catch Without Arms, Dredg's second record for Interscope. The producer is a veteran of Deftones albums, and it's that band's rich but still rocking palette that's the intent here. And they succeed. Like past Dredg releases Catch has a conceptual flow. But openers "Ode to the Sun" and "Bug Eyes" focus the grandeur and meandering pace of the band's past work around effective melodies and a steadiness in the rhythm. The choruses emphasize the Bono/Chino Moreno in Gavin Hayes' vocal, and when the rhythm drops out for a contemplative piano moment, nothing feels forced because this is what Dredg has been working toward for years. ...

| | Enigma MCMXC A.D. CD (1990) (Import) Bonus Tracks; England; Limited Edition; New Zealand
Blessed Be
$13.79 Import only pressing of Enigma's double platinum and Top 10 debut from 1990 with four bonus tracks, 'Sadeness' (Meditation), 'Mea Culpa' (Fading Shades), 'Principles OfLust' (Everlasting Lust) and 'The Rivers Of Belief' (The Returning Silence). Enigma was a studio project put together by producer Michael Cretu, whose interest in World Music, New Age and Electronica collided on this genre-hopping album. Blending atmospheric melodies with modern technology and old world Gregorian chants, Enigma's ground-breaking debut remains fresh and exciting. 13 tracks in total, also featuring the original hit version of the Top Five smash 'Sadeness'. EMI.
Enigma includes: Michael "Curly M.C." Cretu, David Fairstein. Australian pressing features four bonus cuts, "Sadeness," "Mea Culpa," "Principles Of Lust," and "The Rivers of Belief." Michael Crétu's attempt at fusing everything from easy listening sex music and hip-hop rhythms to centuries-old Gregorian chants couldn't have been more designed to tweak the nose of high art, a joyously crass stab straight at a mainstream, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars. The result is something that shouldn't exist, but in its own way results in as much of a cultural scramble and explosion as anything Public Enemy were doing around the same time, crossing over the Euro-disco and new age spheres with style. Credit Crétu for an open ear for whatever works, which is precisely why "Sadeness," the first part of a longer track called "Principles of Lust," turned into a fluke worldwide hit. Snippets of monks invoking the Almighty effortlessly glide in and out of a polite but still strong breakbeat, shimmering, atmospheric synth and flute lines and a Frenchwoman whispering in a way that sounds distinctly more carnal than spiritual (as her gasps for breath elsewhere make clear). Guitar and male vocals add to the album version's try-anything-that-works approach, as do attempts at shuffling jazz beats and horns. If nothing quite equals that prime moment elsewhere on the album, MCMXC A.D. still trips out on the possibilities as it can, right from the opening "Voice of Enigma," inviting all listeners to sit back, relax, and take a gentle trip. Crétu certainly isn't trying to hide anything -- "Callas Went Away" goes right ahead and adds a sample of Maria Callas herself to the chirping birds and soft beats, while elsewhere the flutes, beats, monks, and French voices merrily go about their glossy business. About the only ...
