On the south side of Chicago, MC's are not born; they are forged-forged in a fire of back alleys, house parties, and street violence. This is not a playground for the weak or the timid. If you want to make a name you've got to earn it with passion, sincerity and balls. These are the hallmarks of Avenue Entertainment recording artist Kuz aka Lost Kin Folk. The son of a Chicago O.G., Kuz describes himself as an 'everyday son of poverty. ' Raised single handedly by his mother, Kuz saw first hand that where there is a will, there is a way. She installed firmly in his mind that he was destined to be a leader, not a follower. A natural performer, he always strived to be the center of attention. Whether it was rapping, beat boxing or break dancing, the love of entertaining was always a part of him. Inspired by great such as N.W.A., Rakim, 2-Pac, Biggy, and Jay-Z, Kuz dreamed of making a name for himself in the rap game. But as it often does, life had other plans. Independent by the age of thirteen, the allure of the streets provided Kuz with a variety of opportunities, but they often came with a price. Probation, prison, and gunshot wounds were all part of his days on Chicago's Artesian Avenue. In his words 'it all comes with the game when you're out bangin'. ' Through all those difficult years he never quit rapping though. Eventually he recognized that the future lied not in crime but in music. Committing himself full-time to his dream, Kuz spent the next few years honing his skills, building his name, releasing CD's, and becoming one of the hottest young rappers in the Midwest. Now in 2005, with partners A1 and Iceberg, Kuz has finally put himself where he wants to be with the formation of Avenue Entertainment and the release of his solo debut 'Da Moment of Glory. ' Combining multiple themes of loyalty, respect, love and honor, 'Da Moment of Glory' is the soundtrack to real life in the city, or for that matter anywhere. From the urban drama of 'City Slicka' to the search for truth in 'Show Me,' Kuz has got his finger on the pulse of reality. As he says 'Life is about living, and we all live through the music.' With the exception of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, one would be hard pressed to name a Motown act who went through as many creative shifts as the Temptations. While Wonder's and Gaye's changes of direction were a product of their own creative rebellion against Berry Gordy's brilliant but often formulaic vision, the Temptations seemed to be the label's official "keeping up with the times" artists, starting out as interpreters of Smokey Robinson's silky-smooth sweet soul confections and going on to embrace rock guitars, ...
| | Roscoe Mitchell Song For My Sister CD (2002)
Da Moment Of Glory music CDs
$13.15 Surprise! Song for My Sister opens with the very Blue Note-ish head of the title track, definitely an unexpected move by a saxophonist noted for experimentalism. And while Corey Wilkes' trumpet solo and Vijay Iyer's piano solo take things into a little more of the abstract, it never really loses that straight-head thread, which is really a band feature, a platform for individual solos and a tenor tone from Roscoe Mitchell far more mellifluous than his acerbic norm.
"Sagitta" returns to more typical Mitchell terrain: piano swirls, tart-tone soprano flurries, and cymbal crashes. The nine-man Note Factory includes double piano, bass, and drums, but they know how to stay out of each other's way and a radically compressed sound is actually an advantage here, helping to create the collective improv swirl background to Mitchell's circular breathing soprano lines on "The Inside of a Star." Ultimately, the material seems geared as much toward creating different settings as full-blown compositions per se. "When the Whistle Blows" features ruminative guitar fills and piano while the leader's soprano flurries builds in intensity; "The Megaplexian" is pure abstraction built on piano clusters and the metallic tones of a percussion instrument Mitchell invented for a gamelan-related composition. "Wind Change" is based on cards and addresses common problems of the inexperienced improviser -- it's a very chamber-ish exercise in melodic textures with four extra musicians in the ensemble and full of unexpected shifts and variations. Marimbas and percussion give an African tinge to open "This" before a muted trumpet and piano rhythm/melody that recalls Iyer's work as a composer leads into an exercise in atmosphere and texture with Mitchell on flute. It's even more intriguing for foreshadowing "Step One, Two, Three," which strongly suggests that Mitchell had ...

Da Moment Of Glory music CDs
$5.69 About this songAs I nursed a bad toothache with the few ice cubes I had left in my styrofoam cup, all melting fast in the hot sun of Colonial Beach, Virginia, I saw my husband lumbering back with some more. "Je retaime" came to mind along with soaring notes. Through this impossibly incorrect French phrase and stirring euro-melody, my heart was telling me I loved him again, despite our terrible conflicts in those days. PS: An old Catholic saying says there are three stages of marriage: bliss, suffering, and enlightenment. And through it all, there is Love. I Relove You (Alexandra Lajoux ) I RELOVE YOU (English translation of my song Je Retaime)Verse 1:Two decades pass! and now we feel a little colder, And so we've traveled back to our old rendez-vous.On these hot sands we'll melt inside life's candle holder, Holding one ...
