'GAINING IMMORTALITY' is the new Album by North Wales, UK based Songwriter and Musician JOHN BLIGHT and features 18 songs written and recorded over a period of no less than 35 years. The Album songs were, in the main, written by John in the 1970's at the house featured on the cover, 22 Longford Road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester, England with inspiration and influences being drawn heavily from Paul McCartney's first home-produced Album in 1970. The simple and direct melodies plus John's trademark 3 part harmonies are at times very Beatle-esque and there is even a George Harrison pastiche ('The Lord') included for good measure. The CD booklet is a clever and original take on the (Realty) Estate Agents details on the property, co-designed with renowned Illustrator Paul Young. Providing the top drawer musical background with John are: Stuart Hastings, Gordon Milton and Les Roberts with contributionsfrom Vanda Rawlins, John Adams, Bob Elliott & Mario Keenan.Basically, 'GAINING IMMORTALITY' is packed with short, simple, old fashioned pop statements with a modern day production sound. It was produced by John in his North Wales, UK studio. Gaining Immortality
$14.49 Buoyed by the popularity of the hit contemporary pop ballad "Home," singer Michael Bublé's 2005 album, IT'S TIME, clearly positioned the vocalist as the preeminent neo-crooner of his generation. Easily the singer's most stylistically wide-ranging album so far, 2009's CRAZY LOVE is also one of his brightest, poppiest, and most fun. Bublé kicks things off with the theatrical, epic ballad ...

Gaining Immortality
$13.39 Pink Martini follow the around-the-world-in-a-dozen-songs thrills of HEY EUGENE! with SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS, a mellower, simpler set of small pleasures. These are relative terms, however; the group's music is still well-traveled, with China Forbes singing in five languages (English, Spanish, Neapolitan, French, and Italian) instead of the six or so on EUGENE!. However, Pink Martini opt for a more unified sound here, one that draws on the more straightforward lounge-pop of their debut, SYMPATHIQUE, and the mellowness of '60s and '70s pop. SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS' first half is especially smooth, opening with the beautifully soft Neapolitan ballad "Ninna Nanna" and the title track, on which Forbes sings "I think we should take it slow" over swooping strings, brass, and piano that resurrect the glory days of AM pop; that ...

Gaining Immortality
$17.09 A little history...Back in 1979, Liz Curtis, a program director at Q106 in York, PA, went out on a limb to air a song by a local R&B group known as Maxwell. The group wasn’t signed and was known mostly in their home town of Columbia, PA – a small town overlooking the Susquehanna River just a few miles from the infamous Three Mile Island Nuclear Plant. When the song, aptly titled, “Radiation Funk” was aired, the station’s switchboard lit up with requests to play it, quickly pushing it to the #2 spot on area charts. Then when the flip side, “A New Star,” climbed to #5, Maxwell began getting calls to open for groups like The Temptations, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, The Trammps, The Spinners and other R&B heavyweights. Also – unknown at the time -- the 45 single somehow made its way across the Atlantic, where it became a cult classic. Today, collectors in England, Germany and the Netherlands will pay impressive amounts of money for a copy of the record. So what ever happened to Maxwell and how did The Maxwell Project (TMP) come to be? Formed when most of its members were still in high school and were escorted to gigs by the guitar player’s parents, Maxwell – known ...

Gaining Immortality
$9.59 PRESS\"A sumptuous collision of jazz, soul and pop.\" \"...At the center of each song is Lagerström\'s remarkable voice. She has the soul of Gladys Knight, tonal qualities of Billie Holiday and soaring qualities of Barbara Streisand. Yet it\'s Annie Lennox that her voice most closely resembles. Her voice is so inviting that you want to wrap yourself in it like a warm blanket.\" - The Spectrum, Utah. ”Lagerström’s voice has true Soul in it and I don’t mean the swinging kind but the kind of Soul that gets under your skin and makes you itch...In the beautiful slow ballad, Loose Ends, the guitar, saxophone, drums and organ provide accents in the right places to make the track sound sultry...If I Say Yes is sung with the same, almost careless, but skilful timing for which singers such as Erykah Badu are renowned. Lagerström’s Swedish background can’t be deduced from these songs in which she sounds like a genuine soul diva. \"...This lady is an extremely talented singer.\" - Folk Forum, Netherlands \"At once soulful and folky, Lagerström manages to sound angel like and down to earth at the same time, making the timeless Heaven Sent a more than enjoyable record.\" - Heaven Magazine, Netherlands. \"...A beautiful record that deserves an audience.” - The Independent, Utah. “Heaven Sent, the new album from Victoria Lagerström, is fascinatingly beautiful...Victoria’s soft soul-jazz voice is like a young to midaged Joni Mitchell.\"- Meadowmusic, Sweden\"Imagine Anita Baker had gone pop and joined The Tindersticks to do a tribute album for Soul God Terri Callier, that\'s what you\'ll hear when listening to singer/songwriter Victoria Lagerström\'s debut album, Heaven Sent. Truly a gift from up above...\" - German Kontrastradio, Berlin. \"How I ...
