Keyboardist and violinist Jerry Goodman away from Mahavishnu. They play all instruments (overdubbed). "Country and Eastern Music" and "Steppings Tones" were high-water marks for this new breed (at the time). ~ Michael G. Nastos Jerry Goodman Like Children Songs | 1. | Country and Eastern Music |

| Like Children Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Okay vocals, good tunes, great musicianship Well, the great musicianship isn't surprising, given that these two are alumni of the original Mahavishnu Orchestra lineup. And keyboardist Hammer proves quite capable behind the drumset, as does violinist Goodman on guitar. Vocally, things aren't quite up to par, but certainly not horrible. The tunes are generally good, with several strong instrumentals and a few attempts at pop. Definitely a must for Jan Hammer fans. Submitted by Simbobble (Boston, MA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
the best fusion album ever It's about time this came out on CD. This is by far the best fusion album ever. You gotta get up pretty early in the morning to find an album as good as this one.'nuff said! Submitted by DMDoLAC (Middletown.CT. USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Something special Ok, I've waited years to get this cd. If you like tight musicianship, here it is. Two fifths of the Mahavishnu Orchestra is better than most bands you will hear. This is a lost gem, now found, enjoy. Submitted by Carl_22 (Philadelphia, Pa, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Jan Hammer's first foray after Mahavishnu This early fusion work was the escape valve for Mahavishnu Orchestra bandmates Jan Hammer and Jerry Goodman. By multi-tracking themselves several times, it defines a sound with more emphasis on rock than their previous band. It features several songs that were to become 'standards' within Jan Hammer's later work with his own group and Jeff Beck. It also incorporates tunes that had been performed live by the Mahavishnu ensemble but were still unreleased at that time. A classic of early fusion. Like Children album
$6.25 With BIRTH OF THE COOL, Miles Davis distilled a new tonal palette for jazz. As early as 1954, Miles reacted to the escalating chordal complexity of hard bop by fashioning an evocative blues based on a simple scalar pattern ("Swing Spring"). KIND OF BLUE was the ultimate fulfillment of this approach, with Miles providing his collaborators little more than outlines for melodies and simple scales for improvisation. By emphasizing the blues and the improvisor's melodic gifts, KIND OF BLUE precipitated a major stylistic development--modal jazz.
Charles Mingus had experimented with pedal points throughout the 1950s, and the melodic freedom of Ornette Coleman's Atlantic sides was also predicated on freedom from chord changes. But KIND OF BLUE was to prove the most influential, enduring work of its kind. There was just such a vibe about these 1959 sessions--Miles' lyric genius and burgeoning stardom, the innovative voicings and rarefied touch of pianist Bill Evans, the electrifying presence of Coltrane and Cannonball--that some thirty-plus years after its initial release, KIND OF BLUE is still recognized as Davis' point of departure towards jazz's less-explored regions.
Bill Evans' translucent chords and Paul Chambers' famous bass line herald the revolution that is "So What": Davis and Evans' taut, coiled lyricism stands in sharp relief to the saxophonists' labyrinthine elation. The fat, shimmering beat of the classic Evans/Chambers/Cobb rhythm ...
| | Captain Beyond CD (1972)
Like Children CD music
$8.15 Captain Beyond is a one-of-a-kind progressive album with rock, heavy metal, and jazz influences with a "space rock" lyrical bend. Formed by former members of Deep Purple (Rod Evans, vocals), Iron Butterfly (Rhino, lead guitar, and Lee Dorman, bass), and Johnny Winter (Bobby Caldwell, drums) Captain Beyond is an album that flows from riff to riff, drumbeat to drumbeat, often with various time signatures within the same song. Taking a tip from the Moody Blues, songs flow directly into each other without benefit of any lag time between selections. Taken as a whole, the album is kind of a rush, as quick, riff-laden guitar lines predominate for a few songs before slowing down temporarily into a lull until the next takeoff. Lyrically, the album differentiates itself by exploring themes of the outer world and meanings of existence, often with references to the moon, sea, sun, and so on. Listeners may get the feeling of taking a journey to space in a rocket ship headed for destination unknown. Musically, the album is superior in all aspects. Rod Evans has a strong rock voice, Rhino plays an enormous amount of hook-laden guitar lines, and Lee Dorman plays complex basslines (for example, at the end of "As the Moon Speaks-Return") that lead to typically rhythmic, nimble Bobby Caldwell drumming. The tightness between musicians is enormous, never lets up for long, and leaves the listener feeling like the ride should continue for the ...

$22.75 Very few Led Zeppelin performances were caught on camera during the band's life-span, but the footage that has been preserved for posterity is collected on this release. With a running time of over five-and-a-half hours, this is the definitive word on Zep's global stage-straddling performances. The footage is taken from London's Royal Albert Hall in January 1970, London's Earls Court in May 1975, Knebworth in August 1979, and Madison Square Garden in July 1973. Guitarist Jimmy ...

$22.45 HAUNTED HOUSE features all of Jumpin' Gene Simmons' collected singles and the complete album JUMPIN'.
Gene Simmons is remembered for his 1964 novelty hit "Haunted House," but his career was longer and more varied than the term one-hit wonder suggests. He had only one other hit, "The Dodo," which peaked at number 83 in the wake of "Haunted House," but he recorded an entire album and numerous singles for Hi Records in the '60s. The era covered by this collection, 1959-1965, found Simmons abandoning the rockabilly of his Sun years in favor of a straight rock & roll sound that edged toward soul as the '60s wore on, with practically no hint of his former ...
