Closed Captioned; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English This violent drama is based on an allegedly historic encounter between white settlers and the Cheyenne Indians, of the west. Based on Theodore V. Olsen's novel ARROW IN THE SUN, the account enacts the struggle of a U.S. soldier named Honus Gant (Peter Strauss) and a white woman named Cresta (Candice Bergen) who has been captured by the Indians two years earlier. The pair is hoping to stay alive until they can reach the nearest army outpost. When the Cheyenne slaughter the paymaster's party, with which they have been traveling, the two carry on to encounter several unusual characters. Donald Pleasance is perfect in his portrayal of Isaac Q. Cumber, who holds them captive, while hoping to sell the Cheyenne guns, in order to acquire some of gold they stole from the paymaster. When Honus is wounded, Cresta goes ahead alone, only to discover that the army plans to wipe the Indians out entirely. She hopes to return to help Honus, and warn the Cheyenne to flee, before the handful of them that are left, are wiped out. Ralph Nelson directs, and keeps the allegiances even, revealing the true tragedy behind the conflict. Film was originally rated R by the MPAA, but was re-edited to earn a PG. Soldier Blue Reviews: "[I]t's a visceral riposte to a jaded screen legacy of saccharine cavalry heroes."

Soldier Blue Movie Review Average Rating: (3 out of 5 stars) Uncomfortable ghosts? What a pleasure to find this largely forgotten film on disc. I find it interesting that it is forgotten, or damned with faint praise (Leonard Maltin)as it is a genuine attempt to subvert the western form. Are the Me Lay massacre parallels to close to home, and best skimmed over. The print is excellent, bar scratches over the last few minutes. There are also some odd speed wobbles on the music soundtrack, despite the overlying dialogue being clear and precise. See it on a large screen (over 50") if you can- it really comes to life. Great presentation of true event If you appreciate the Native American culture, this movie is hard to watch in places but an excellent treatment of a tragic event; the Sand Creek Massacre. Like a lot of older movies, the acting is a tad over the mark, but the quality of this film is in the story. About the time you feel like you have seen enough of the relationship between the two main players, the film shifts and had real drama. The end of it portrays an event that happened. It's part of our history, and while we should be ashamed that it occurred, I think it's appropriate that white people know it did happen. I'm not Indian, but the Native American culture and history are important to me for reasons that don't matter when I'm just saying to you that this movie is worth watching. Soldier Blue review
$33.25 In DODGEBALL: A TRUE UNDERDOG STORY, Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn team up once again (following STARSKY & HUTCH) for another comic romp. While hilariously satirizing modern-day gym culture, the film also celebrates a sport that has previously been relegated to the elementary school playground. Peter La Fleur (Vaughn) owns the decrepit Average Joe's gym, which has been losing its clients ever since the glitzy Globo Gym opened up across the street. White Goodman (Stiller), Globo Gym's main spokesman, is a preposterously vain egomaniac on the cusp of taking over La Fleur's failing business. La Fleur learns from a beautiful attorney (Christine Taylor) that if he doesn't come up with $50,000 in 30 days, his career running a ...

$14.95 Robert Altman's hometown gets the director's signature treatment in this jazz-infused mobster tale set in the 1930s. KANSAS CITY takes place in the jazz-drenched, depression-era milieu of the eponymous city, focusing on a 24-hour relationship between two extremely different women. Trashy, brassy and uneducated Blondie O'Hara (Jennifer Jason Leigh) is desperately searching for her equally lowlife husband Jack (Dermot Mulroney) who has been captured ...
