The supergroup blueprint makes its entree into the world of Norwegian black metal with the release of BETWEEN TWO WORLDS. Simply known as I, members of Enslaved, Sagh, and Olve "Abbath" Eikemo's Immortal join forces to form a powerhouse band that picks up where the now-defunct latter group left off. Chunky, symphonic guitar riffs meld with epic solos and classic bellowing-from-hell vocals to create a sound that could only be described as melodic death metal.
Recording information: Lydrikey Studio.
Photographer: Hakon Grav.
I: Abbath (vocals, guitar); Ice Dale (guitar); TC King (bass guitar); Armagedda (drums).
Audio Mixer: Peter Tägtgren.

| Between Two Worlds Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) rock n roll later immortal! yep this is exactly that. good rock n roll, heavy metal, heavy music whatever you want to name it! Abbath and Demonaz strike back with an album that to my ears has a heavy motorhead sound and just cruises along nicely. There is nothing reminiscent of "Blashyrkh" here or nothing abrasive like the earlier immortal recordings but that said it is such a fun album to listen to.
i personally hope they get back to the battles in the north stuff, but this is an awesome album for the direction taken and good on em for simplifying things and having some fun.
frostbitten grimness it aint but from the ravenrealm it is!

Black Metal meets Traditional Heavy Metal It couldn’t have mixed better. This is a slab of metal that is full of the cold steely riffs from the Immortal camp coupled with alot of old school heavy metal melody & great guitar leads.
Mostly a mid-paced album with some more upbeat tunes like The Storm I Ride, Mountains, & Cursed We Are. Not overly technical, that is one of the things that makes it so easy to listen too with songs that are not too long. Really dig the change of paces & riffs in most of the songs, nothing drones on at all.
Recommended with highest honors!

One of the best 2006 releases I dig this album for it's pureness. It grabs everything that metal is, the best of what it has been tather, and compresses it into one package. It doesn't really matter what kind of metal you prefer - this should hit home. It's for the metal purists(those with ears towards everything metal, able to sort through the crap) I consider my self this. If you got any backbone you'll listen to this record. The future looks to the past If you were around for the NWOBHM and subsequent rise of European metal this
release will take you back to glorious days long gone. Motorhead and Bathery
both come to mind. This is a great heavy metal disc, recorded today,
with a heavy nod to those glorious days back in 1979 thru 1984...enjoy! Submitted by paiste2002 (Los Angeles, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Between Two Worlds songs
$13.35 Immortal's Nuclear Blast debut, and this Norwegian trio's seventh album to date, Sons of Northern Darkness, marks a monumental statement that reverberates throughout the black metal community. Sons of Northern Darkness is arguably one of the best black metal releases ever put forth, as it fully articulates what many other bands of this nature fail to embrace. Thick, meaty riffs dominate the album, as guitarist Abbath shreds the competition with mind-blowing melody and relentlessly brutal power. Abbath also ...

| | Enslaved Ruun CD (2006)
Between Two Worlds CD music
$13.59 Considering how vehemently punk and progressive rock audiences detested each other back in the late '70s, it is truly ironic that the prog rock element has become so strong in melodic death metal and symphonic black metal. The death metal/black metal field, after all, wouldn't have existed were it not for punk; black metal came out of death metal, which came out of thrash (the first true fusion of metal and punk). But then, dogma and sectarianism are things that intelligent musicians ultimately reject, which is why a symphonic black metal jewel like Ruun can be influenced by Pink Floyd (among many others) even though black metal's overall debt to punk remains undeniable (for that matter, very little post-'80s metal doesn't have some type of punk influence). There are some black metal purists who would argue that Enslaved's Ruun, like their Isa album, is too mindful of mainstream tastes, that the strong power metal and prog rock influence one hears on this 46-minute disc is an example of black metal being watered down and diluted. But what is watered down to one person is expansive and broad-minded to another, and make no mistake: Ruun epitomizes a very expansive vision of black metal. This is loud, heavy, intense, forceful, in-your-face music -- no one is going to mistake Ruun for a Celine Dion album anytime soon -- but it is also highly melodic, elaborate, and intricate. Listing all ...
| | Amon Amarth With Oden On Our Side CD (2006) Bonus CD; Digipak
Between Two Worlds MP3 Album
$10.69 Death metal with some melody? Can it be? As evidenced by Amon Amarth's 2006 release, With Odin on Our Side, this dream seems to be a reality early on. On the album opening "Valhall Awaits Me," singer Johan Hegg's vocal lines aren't merely growled syllables. But don't be worried, longtime Amarth fans, it's not like the Swedish outfit has enlisted the help of Burt Bacharach to soften things up, as Hegg's vocals do resort back to the expected death metal growl soon enough, especially on such tracks as "Under the Northern Star." Yet all the while, Hegg manages to hold his own against the ...
| | Belphegor Pestapokalypse VI CD (2006)
Between Two Worlds music CDs
$12.29 Along with raging against the Catholic Church and promoting the apocalypse in the name of their ol' buddy Satan, Austria's Belphegor have always prided themselves on delivering the most brutal, lightning-fast combination of death and black metal imaginable -- over and over again, album after album. 2006's Pestapokalypse VI is yet another example of this enterprise; opening with a track that's helpfully entitled "Belphegor -- Hell's Ambassador," before unleashing a veritable deluge of similarly frenzied sonic typhoons. These invariably contain eye-popping displays of high-velocity musicianship set to suspiciously machine-like percussion, and, at their best (check out the standout pair of "Seyn Todt in Schwartz," "Pest Teufel Apokalypse"), challenge Belphegor's better-known contemporaries, such as Poland's Behemoth and Brazil's Krisiun, for tee-total speed-freak supremacy. Thankfully, slower-creeping numbers like "Angel of Retribution" and "Bluhtsturm Erotika" do crop up on occasion to offer infrequent, but much needed respites from the disc's otherwise incessant barrage of metronome-melting rampages -- but is it enough? Believe it or not, even hardened death and black metal fans ...

| | Tiamat Judas Christ CD (2002)
Between Two Worlds album
$9.85 Once a black metal band (they're from Sweden) and then a goth metal band when they hit their stride, Tiamat are now just a hokey band singing about love and astrology. And Judas Christ, an attempt at an offensive title (but not a successful one), is an incredibly slow, corny album with lyrics that will make some of their most ardent fans wince. Nobody wants to hear a goth metal band sing about snuggly bunnies, but that doesn't stop Tiamat from rhyming that with "hug me honey" on the hideous "Love Is as Good as Soma." Nearly as bad is "I Am in Love with Myself" or the pathetic anthem "Vote for Love." (The titles say it all.) A lot of these songs sound like Mission U.K. or the Church, but the lyrics are gooier and the music less moving. ...
