Wasted Youth were an East London decadent/bohemian band based around legendary venue the Bridge House. Their debut single 'Jealousy', released in '79 and sounding like an outtake from Lou Reed's 'Transformer', got regular national airplay. They toured with the Only Ones, whose Peter Perrett produced and featured on the next 7" 'I'll Remember You'. Martin Hannett produced the next, Rebecca's Room, and they toured with Classic Nouveau and with the help of their album 'Wild & Wandering' established themselves as a live touring band throughout the UK and Europe. After they split in 1982, guitarist Rocco went on to form Flesh For Lulu. Plus 16-page booklet with notes about each release by Terry Murphy. Wasted Youth Memorialize Songs | 1. | Jealousy | |

Memorialize album
$11.18 It's no secret that John Mayer is a 21st Century Fox, wining and dining women all through tabloid headlines, so it's about time he delivered an album that traded upon his loverman persona -- and Battle Studies is that record in spades. Retaining more than a modicum of the slick, soul-blues undertones of Continuum, Mayer fashions a modern groove album, a record that maintains a smooth seductive vibe so thoroughly it spills into a one-man band cover of "Crossroads." Mayer remains somewhat of a disciple of Slowhand, but he shows an unusual interest in the big AOR stylings of Journeyman, along with Stevie Ray Vaughan's In Step, creating a coolly clean blend ...

$19.34 It's a commonly held opinion among fans and band alike that Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' lone live album, 1986's Pack Up the Plantation, didn't quite capture the group at its peak, so there has been a long-standing need for another live set, which 2009's Live ...

| | Echo & The Bunnymen Crocodiles CD (1980) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Memorialize album
$7.51 Emerging from Liverpool, England in 1980, Echo and the Bunnymen were hailed as the vanguard of a new psychedelic-rock movement. While vocalist Ian McCulloch's cryptic lyrics and Will Sergeant's colorful guitar arrangements do evoke the dark, brooding intensity of '60s groups like the Doors, Echo and the Bunnymen owed more to English post-punk than '60s rock. Featuring songs that range from the supercharged three-chord garage rock of "Do It Clean" and the crashing album opener, "Going Up," to the hazy neo-psychedelia of "Villiers Terrace" and "Pictures on My Wall," CROCODILES is a remarkably good debut, one that established Echo and the Bunnymen as one of most creative and charismatic English rock bands of the '80s. The American edition of CROCODILES also boasts the single "Rescue," a dramatic, melodic track that layers McCulloch's gritty rhythm guitar over Sergeant's chiming lead and producer David Balfe's subtle keyboard work to create one of the definitive U.K. singles of the post punk era. While Echo and the Bunnymen would later become modern-rock icons, CROCODILES captures them in all their raw, ragged glory, trying to emulate the work of their heroes David Bowie and the Velvet Underground but instead creating music of startling originality.
Inspired by psychedelia, sure. Bit of Jim Morrison in the vocals? OK, it's there. But for all the references and connections that can be drawn (and they can), one listen to Echo's brilliant, often harrowing debut album and it's clear when a unique, special band presents itself. Beginning with the dramatic, building climb of "Going Up," Crocodiles at once showcases four individual players sure of their own gifts and their ability to bring it all together to make things more than the sum of their parts. Will Sergeant in particular is a revelation -- arguably only Johnny Marr and Vini Reilly were better English guitarists from the '80s, eschewing typical guitar-wank overload showboating in favor of delicacy, shades, and inventive, unexpected melodies. More than many before or since, he plays the electric guitar as just that, electric not acoustic, dedicated to finding out what can be done with it while never using it as an excuse to bend frets. His highlights are legion, whether it's the hooky opening chime of "Rescue" or the exchanges of sound and silence in "Happy Death Men." Meanwhile, the Pattinson/De Freitas rhythm section stakes its own claim ...
| | Urban Mystic Ghetto Revelations CD (2004) Edited
Memorialize CD music
$11.79 For his debut album, Urban Mystic works his way through 14 generally impressive songs, all of which have their own attributes and a few of which are absolutely wonderful. Titled Ghetto Revelations, the album is clearly an exercise in contemporary R&B, though it's a bit out of the ordinary. Urban Mystic sure sings like an R&B singer, and well at that, but his lyrics have perhaps more in common with his rap peers than the likes of Usher, Anthony Hamilton, and Mario. If this doesn't seem apparent right away, it certainly will once you hit the sixth song: "Fuck Song." Yup, Urban Mystic is often quite frank in his language, not unlike R. Kelly at times (unambiguous songs like "Feelin' on Yo Booty" and "Down Low" come to mind). Not to overstate the sexual content of Ghetto Revelations, though. It's actually quite varied in subject matter, unlike a great many contemporary R&B albums, which are often all about sex, albeit often shrouded in allusive rhetoric. "Where Were You," one of the few absolutely wonderful songs that kick off the album in grand fashion, is a better gauge of what's on Urban Mystic's mind in general: it's a heartfelt song that celebrates many of the commonalities shared by urban Americans, from remembrances of 2Pac's and Biggie's deaths to more personal remembrances, like where you were when you ...
