Singer and keyboardist Erika Forster left the dream pop outfit Dirty on Purpose after their debut album to concentrate on her own project, but that loss is twee indie pop's gain. Not since the sole album by Dusty Trails, the one-off collaboration between Josephine Wiggs of the Breeders and Vivian Trimble of Luscious Jackson, has an album blended minimalist synthesizers and cinematic minor-key melodies with only the very slightest of Stereolab influences. Indeed, the closest comparison for tunes like the simply lovely opener, "Through the Backyards," is a synth-oriented version of Yo La Tengo circa And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out -- a similarly placid feel with hushed, delicate vocals floating over a bed of gently murmuring keyboards. The more uptempo tunes, like "The Disco Song," have a playful feel with a hint of '80s pastiche. But dreamy tunes like the haunting "Back in Time" are where Au Revoir Simone shine: blending contrapuntal vocal lines and a hypnotic beatbox drone out of the Young Marble Giants playbook, the song develops an epic quality out of the simplest of instruments. The instrumental "The Winter Song" is even more effective, blending music box synth lines and toy xylophone plinking with a subtly propulsive rhythm that transforms the song from a minor exercise to a fully formed pop song. The only flaw of the outstanding Verses of Comfort, Assurance & Salvation is that at eight songs in 27 and a half minutes, it's too short. ~ Stewart Mason Verses Of Comfort, Assurance & Salvation Music Au Revoir Simone Verses Of Comfort, Assurance & Salvation Songs | 1. | Through the Backyards |

Verses Of Comfort, Assurance & Salvation album
$11.65 EVERCLEAR, AMC's finest hour and one the '90s' most powerful albums, is simultaneously lush and searing, heartache and despair borne out in elegant arrangements that combine fragile prettiness and soul-baring howls of pain. Multi-instrumentalist Bruce Kaphan rose to the occasion of his production debut. The canyons of reverb on the instruments are strangely appropriate, highlighting the almost decadent, tragically beautiful feel of the songs. Keyboards, pedal steel, and acoustic guitars drift like abandoned ships swirling around in ...

Verses Of Comfort, Assurance & Salvation album
$10.15 The Tony Reynolds Story - Full Circle...A Musical LegacyFull Circle is a return to a simpler time. A time when music and lyrics were a work of art and singers performed their music in intimate settings live, in person and unplugged. Full Circle is a collection of music representing the artistic work of Tony Reynolds, a rising singing sensation during the late 50s and early 60s. The Full Circle recording project started as Reynolds' personal commitment to leave a musical legacy for his family and friends. The reaction to the initial release was overwhelming. This positive feedback convinced Tony to produce a CD for the general public thereby enabling him to come full circle and close the gap in his singing career. A dream he had always had and could not pursue until now.During the mid to late 50s, Tony was very active and recorded a variety of songs produced at recording studios located in New York, Atlanta and Nashville. During these recording sessions, Tony worked with some of the eras great musical arrangers, singing groups and musicians including: Sy Oliver, The Ray Charles Singers, Bob Armstrong, The George Shearing Quintet and Roy Clark. These records provide a musical snapshot of the kind of music America listened to during that period. Tony was born Edmund Antony Dante and raised in Brooklyn, New York. As a young boy, his singing role model was his father who had a beautiful tenor voice. Poppa constantly encouraged him to sing Italian songs for visiting family and friends. Reynolds's early musical training came from the Saint Ephrem Parochial School Choir. The Choir Director, Sister Henrette, was a formidable musician who instilled a love of music and personal discipline in Tony that would sustain him all his life. On his sixteenth birthday, Tony's father bought him a Martin acoustical guitar. This magnificent instrument started him on the road to show business and was his faithful travel companion on tours across the US. The guitar is alive and well and is affectionately called "Poppa". Reynolds was a true entertainer in the context of the 50s. He was a singer, guitarist and nightclub performer. His lyrical tenor/baritone voice enabled him to artistically render a wide range of songs rich both in content and variety. He was equally at home with popular ballads, old standards, folk songs, Broadway show tunes, rock and roll and rhythm and blues. Reynolds' singing debut began with an appearance at the Apollo Theater in New York. He was active as a performer and starred as the headliner or opening act at many popular 50s vintage nightclubs, supper clubs, theaters ...
