In the film FAST FOOD NATION, Richard Linklater builds a fictional story around the theme of Eric Schlosser's best-selling book of the same name, a tract exploring the loss of identity in modern times brought about by the rise of chain restaurants. Its soundtrack highlights the absurdity and homogeneousness of the world within the movie by enlisting artists who weld together many opposing sounds from varying eras, with the bulk of the backing music provided by Friends of Dean Martinez, the instrumental indie-rock supergroup who play an electrifying mix of rockabilly, exotica, funk, and dissonant modern rock.

Fast Food Nation Soundtrack album
$15.89 The debut White Noise album featured Delia Derbyshire and Brian Hodgson, who had worked for the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and David Vorhaus, who had studied classical orchestral bass playing and electronics. The instrumentation consisted of early electronic instruments and a huge amount of tape manipulation, the standard techniques of the Workshop in those days. The album originally released by Island Records in 1969 only emerged on CD - in a "matrix mixed" format - as late as 1996, again on Island, but was rapidly deleted. Island. 2004.

$10.79 On this immensely appealing debut, SILENT ALARM, the London-based quartet Bloc Party fulfills the promise of their barnstorming 2004 singles "Banquet" and "She's Hearing Voices." Led by magnetic frontman Kele Okereke, the band extracts the most fascinating aspects of the previous 25 years of British indie rock and fuses them into a new entity--complete with smarts and heart--never delving into retro-kitsch or slavish imitation.

| | Richard Rodgers Victory At Sea CD (1992)
Fast Food Nation Soundtrack music CDs
$10.09 The 1952 NBC series Victory at Sea was one of the earliest network documentary series to capture the public's imagination in a serious way, and one of the more enduring offshoots was the music by Richard Rodgers, which was recorded by RCA-Victor in what ultimately became a series of four LPs. Rodgers was chosen by series producer Henry Salamon based on his being the "leading American composer of his day," a somewhat exalted (though understandable) judgement for a man who was most closely associated with the Broadway stage and ...

This 43-track set includes in its entirety the unlikely opera about AIDS, drugs, squatters, down-and-out artists and (of course) love that won the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for drama and went on to knock Broadway off its feet at a time when the Broadway musical was widely assumed to be dead. Like the climactic love song that seems to magically rescue one of the main characters from near-death, RENT ...
