The debut album from Australian metalcore outfit I Killed the Prom Queen showed that the quintet was out to give the American and European competition a run for its money. The band's sophomore effort, MUSIC FOR THE RECENTLY DECEASED, does much the same, delivering 11 songs of furious power, melodic hooks, tight musicianship, and crushing breakdowns. IKTPQ employs elements of death metal, screamo, and hardcore punk, but balances each of these in a way that brings something fresh to the nu-metal arena. Although the album treads over some of the same territory as its predecessor, that shouldn't dissuade metalcore fanatics from giving it a spin.Alternative Press (p.136) - "Thrashing guitars, guttural yelps iced with the occasional melodic vocal chorus, and a penchant for verbose song titles....A solid second album." CMJ (p.24) - "The album's uber-slick-production polishes every note, riff and beat until crystal clear..." Kerrang (Magazine) (p.50) - "[With] great songs, a predilection for OTT guitar harmonies and a vocalist who knows his death metal..." | Music For The Recently Deceased Music Music For The Recently Deceased Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Another Here for you is another of the huge slew of uninspired metalcore records that have been released recently. If you don't want to be bored to death with generic music don't get this Submitted by srbrucker (kcmo) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
GOOD VARIETY in the notes it says they fuse elements of "punk and screamo" but i cant recall any of that. this cd is a good cd with all sorts of lil good parts speckled throughout. i can listen to it pretty much straight through and not get bored. track 6 and 7 are cool. the vocals are good too if u like the full spectrum of styles. i dont support all that "im so vegan straightedge even my t-shirt says so" mentality but whatever, still a sweet cd. Dubbed the Australian "Queens" of Metal-core Another astounding release from the queens (or shall i say kings) of melodic metalcore. This album is alot more structured and sensual then the last with dramatic changes to vocals and guitar solos, still maintaining their classic harmony as good old Prom Queen. Fronting another singer and clearly another influence Mr Ed Butcher, not hearing this anticipated release would be a mistake. If given the oppotunity to catch them live, I suggest doing it as these guys will leave your heart beating faster then a quick sprint without a warm up. Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and former Night Ranger and Damn Yankee Jack Blades has had a lucrative post-'80s career. A capable tunesmith in the industry, Blades has penned material for Aerosmith, Roger Daltrey, and Cher, as well as a reunited Night Ranger and a record with frequent collaborator Tommy Shaw. A great many aging rockers put out solo albums for all the wrong reasons -- money, midlife crisis, a misguided sentiment of fan obligation -- but a select few do it simply for the love of music. Jack Blades belongs in the latter category, and the 11 surprisingly solid tracks on his self-titled debut are a welcome surprise. Opening with the bright, melodic "Shine On," Blades unleashes an arsenal of hair metal soldiers -- Shaw, Neal Schon, Great White's Michael Lardie, ...
| | Monster Magnet Monolithic Baby CD (2004)
Music For The Recently Deceased songs
$13.45 "Wyndorfian" is the only appropriate phrase to use when describing the rawk machine that is Monster Magnet. Yes, lead Magneteer Dave Wyndorf is worthy of his own descriptive, his impeccable songwriting skills truly standing on their own crater-pecked asteroid in the music-biz cosmos. So it goes with Monolithic Baby!, which marks a couple of superficial transitions for Monster Magnet -- off a major and back to an indie; new rhythm section (Jim Baglino on bass and Bob Pantella on drums) -- but still upholds Wyndorf's highly entertaining mass of contradictions and vices. Simultaneously whip-smart and cementhead-stupid, smirking and sincere, he can challenge your intellect with an inspired arrangement or pseudo-political left-field lyric, then bash you over the head with a fat, greasy guitar riff; such is his genius. While Wyndorf's earlier endeavors were psychedelic dope dreams, he would eventually kick the hard stuff for a new addictive: sex. So it's no surprise that Monolithic Baby! kicks off with four smarmy-charm, crotch-thrusting musical metaphors for the horizontal mambo in "Slut Machine," "Supercruel," "Unbroken (Hotel Baby)," and especially "On the Verge," which counteracts a nudge-nudge-wink-wink doomsayer lyric ("Take me Jesus, take me Allah, rape me in my room/Torch our days in paranoia ...
