| | Beach Boys Shut Down V.2 CD (1964) (Import) Japan; Limited Edition; Mini LP Sleeve
On The Road: Anchora, Alaska 07/23/2004 CD music
$39.39 SHUT DOWN, VOL 2 kicks things off with the Chuck Berry-derived strains of the classic "Fun, Fun, Fun," diving right off the bat into the thick layers of harmony which were the outstanding trademark of the Beach Boys. "Don't Worry Baby" follows, its perfect vocal performances and bittersweet melody ...
| | Rolling Stones Hot Rocks 1964-1971 CDs (1972)
On The Road: Anchora, Alaska 07/23/2004 music CDs
$18.09 If faced with the absurd dilemma of picking one album to represent the meaning of rock music, the Rolling Stones compilation HOT ROCKS--which collects most of their commercially and artistically successful songs from 1964 to 1971--would certainly be in the running. A two-CD set (originally released as a double LP), HOT ROCKS' 22 tracks each have the ring of historical inevitability about them; more importantly, of course, they are great tunes. From the soulful wailing of "Time Is On My Side" (the only non-Jagger/Richards original here) to the nervous pop shuffle of "Mother's Little Helper" through the Indian-influenced psychedelia ...
| | Moe Warts And All Vol. 2 CDs (2002)
On The Road: Anchora, Alaska 07/23/2004 songs
$14.55 When the ever-popular Vermont band Phish went on hiatus in the late '90s, the steam was let out of the jam band movement, leading to dwindling live audiences and wholesale cuts by major labels looking toward the next trend. Don't tell the members of moe. that the jam band thing might have run its course, however. Dropped by Epic Records after a pair of decent albums for the label, moe. struck out on its own with encouraging results, touring constantly and slowly building a loyal following that revels in the band's instrumental virtuosity. Warts and All, Vol. 2 is a budget-priced three-CD set that captures the band in its natural environment (i.e., on-stage and playing in front of an enthusiastic audience). The second in a series of live albums released by the band's ...

| | Malo CD (1972)
On The Road: Anchora, Alaska 07/23/2004 music CDs
$8.05 Malo's debut album remains their best and best-known work, primarily for the inclusion of the hit single "Suavecito." That track managed to make a Chicago-like pop-soul song sound hip with its smooth integration of Latin rhythms and irresistible "la la la" chorus. However, it represented just one facet of a band who, despite some expected similarities to Santana, played some of the most exciting and exuberant fusions of rock, soul, and Latin music. The six extended tracks (all clocking in at over six minutes apiece) leaned more heavily on hot Latin jazz brass than Santana did, though Jorge Santana himself generated plenty of friction with his burning electric guitar. It's not an exaggeration to state that by the time this came out in 1972, Malo's Latin rock blend sounded fresher than Santana's, if only because they sound hungrier ...

On The Road: Anchora, Alaska 07/23/2004 songs
$17.95 Not long after saxophonists Dick Oatts and Rich Perry joined the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, pianist Harold Danko (who was already in the band) was very impressed with their abilities, and he began to conceive of a record date featuring both men by the early '80s, though it wouldn't come to fruition for another quarter century. Together with his regular rhythm section (bassist Michael Formanek and drummer Jeff Hirschfield), they dove headfirst into a date featuring ...
